Devil's Retards beats that first one but not a favorite. At least you got something positive out of it though!

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
Dudes. Thoughts on having a "frontman" in a doom band? I'm sorta averse to it, but we're having a hard time finding someone who can pick AND lay down some vocals. If this new project was heavy like Galaxicon, I'd just do all of the vocals, but we also want some cleaner(ish) vocals.
KHEMMIS. Doomed heavy metal. DECEIVER out 11/19/21 on Nuclear Blast.
GLACIAL TOMB. Misanthropic death/black/sludge. S/t debut out now on Gilead Media.
Good deals with: Ancient Astronaught, conky, crohny, D-Day, Corey Y, ryan summit, tons more here and on HCFX under this username

nothing wrong with a frontman...Goatsnake had a frontman...was awesome. My personal issue with a frontman is the music we play has more instrumentals than vocals, so if we had a frontman they would have nothing to do for more than half a song. So i guess it depends on your songs and what your vocals/instrumental ratio is.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
Nothing wrong with having a frontman at all. It's not the traditional thing to do in Doom, but that's probably as a result of a lack of singers who don't like playing an instrument as well. Usually a musician who plays Stoner Rock plays that king of music because they're a musician, while other genres there are dedicated singers.
I just locked myself out of debit card because this fucking website I was buying from kept pissing me off with its shitty order form. I don't why websites can't get this very basic concept: IRELAND DOES NOT HAVE POSTCODES!

True. I'm trying to push myself to do something different with this band, rather than just have galaxicon v2, so part of that I suppose is avoiding long instrumental sections if we have a frontman. There's just something so much more appealing (most of the time) about heavy bands who have no sole frontman. Then again, Rwake, Soilent Green, Burning Witch, Inter Arma, Acid Bath (at least on most of the heavy songs), etc. have all shown it possible if done well.
Oh well, we'll see how these last couple of dudes go. At least with my buddy who's auditioning on Wednesday, I know he has killer guitar gear (Sunn Sorado and Laney GH50L). And he has a ton of HoF-meets-NWOBHM style riffs.

samzadgan wrote:can anyone recommend a good 5 string bass? my bassist is looking for a new bass, he wanted an Ibanez, but after playing it he realised its better for modern metal rather than what we play...i was thinking those music man basses are pretty good.
i used to play with someone who had a music man 5 string and it was a really good instrument. i would stand behind one. i know it was about $700 when they bought it. don't know what you can get them for over there.
i think having a vocalist who doesn't play an instrument is fine, so long as they're not a douche bag and can behave appropriately on stage, particularly during long instrumental parts. if they're really fucking good then it's worth it. it's just that most of them are not that great and act like fools. i can do mediocre vocals myself and not act stupid. and, i don't believe in writing songs around a singer. i shouldn't have to forgo an awesome instrumental part just so this dude has something to do all the time.
and most importantly, i don't believe in calling someone a "front man" just because they do vocals. usually these assholes are egomaniacs to start with. there's no need to inflate their disproportionate sense of self any more by calling them the front man. vocals, particularly in metal, are certainly no more important than any other instrument and really no more up front. just 'cause you stand in the center or whatever does not make you the most important.

Also, Pink Floyd is MY SHIT. I like Piper and Animals best. Saucerful and Obscured By Clouds are right up there too.
Fuck yes Billys tones are my inspiration for mine.
