The Adult Swim Thread
So, it is the best/most innovative "network" (whatever you want to call it) on TV undoubtedly of the last 15 years.
It all started with Space Ghost. A show based on taking recycled stock animation, pieced together interviews with B-list celebrities, and some brilliant improv voice acting.
Then there were the spin-offs: Harvey Birdman (which featured a younger Stephen Colbert), Aqua Teen Hunger Force (still on after like 14 or so years), The Brak Show (it's greatness speaks for itself), 12 oz. Mouse (a seriously underappreciated piece of absurdist genius).
Also, you've got Sealab 2021, a show that was really great. It got kinda not-great after they got rid of captain Murphy, but yeah.
Lucy Daughter of the Devil is one of those show you NEED to watch if you haven't. AMAZING voice cast. H. Jon Benjamin, Jon Glaser, Melissa Bardin Glasky were all so great.
Then they took on Tim and Eric. I'm not talking about Awesome Show. Great Job! I'm talking about Tom Goes to the Mayor. A show that fit perfectly into their style, but was something so unlike anything...well ever. Ultra-minimalist animation with an excellent regular and guest cast (anchored down by the connections of Bob Odenkirk). It just fit perfectly.
And it transitioned so well into Tim and Eric, Awesome Show. Great Job! Possibly the greatest television program of all time. With that show, video editing became a part of comedy, in a blatant way. It already had been a part of "reality" entertainment (reality TV is all just about well-done editing).
Since then, AS has had some hit/miss comedies. Personally, I loved Delocated (still haven't watched the finale), but Jon Glaser is just a comedic genius, Superjail is absolutely great, its a living doodle plus David Wayne as a manic Willy Wonka-esque character. Children's Hospital is ok.
So yeah, I'm sure there's plenty of stuff I missed. What are some of your favorite AS shows, moments, characters, or whatever?

Re: The Adult Swim Thread
Home Movies is totally not an Adult Swim show. But they show reruns, maybe even the last season exclusively on that network, but I'm pretty sure it was just reruns.
Either way, Home Movies was one of the greatest shows ever. And it has H. Jon Benjamin. And Brendon Small, who went on to make Metalocalypse, something I haven't even mentioned. It is amazing.

Totally a rip off of that Flash theme song by Queen; great anyway, especially when you've head it a hundred times.

Re: The Adult Swim Thread
tbh i think all their like... big draw/longest running shows are their worst, for the most part.
aqua teen just isn't all that funny to me, and tim and eric is just an intellectual exercise in making faux-dada pop art collage rather than actual comedy.
but yeah, lotsa good shows that are mostly creator driven, but it seems like they've started to do a lot of nepotism and cronyism with their shows rather than their old model of like "hey we have a weird idea for a show, what do you think?" so their brand has gotten stale imo.
also fuck the new bumps
