So…any shutterbugs/photography nerds here?

I recently upgraded from my pocket sized digital to an entry level interchangeable lens cam (Sony NEX F3)
currently looking at picking up 1-2 more lenses (great…another black hole for the wallet) and practicing getting better photos.

Care to share what camera/gear youre using or experiences in lens brand etc ?
And of course post some awesome pictures/compositions….music gear related or not…

I don't have one now...both broken and also haven't had time for photography.

when i did...i used film only...Nikon FM2 with a 50mm and 28mm lens, and i also had one of those plastic camera's bluebird fly (i think it was called)

At one point i also had nice pentax 50mm lens at 1.2...which was amazing...almost leica quality!

I mess around with photography, live shows in particular, but I haven't had time or money in the last couple of months. I have an old Nikon D40, and I mostly use just a 50mm f1.4. I would love to upgrade my gear to something more modern, but again, there's the cash thing, and really, I'm not hitting its limits every time. I may need to do a little more post-processing, but I still get OK shots. You can check out my stuff here for now. (Hope to get going with a blog at some point this year.)

I’m a Nikon guy.
Started with a motor driven F, moved up through the F-3 and F-4
Finally broke down and got a digital Coolpix P90 a few years ago to play with.
And I do like the ease of digital so bought a D5100 so I can use my arsenal of lenses.
Prefer Nikor’s quality but hate the price.
Sigma and Tokina have several models that are on par with the Nikors now.

For digital photography I have an old Canon 20D that I love. My girlfriend bought me a battery grip for it . My first lens was an EF 50mm f/1.4; however, it met an unfortunate end. My main lens now is a EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM. I also have a macro lens for it, but can't recall the model.

For film photography, I have a handful of cameras. The one that's seen the most use is a Nikon F-601 with a 35-70mm F/3.3-4.5 AF lens. I used this for a photography course where I learned how to develop the pictures myself. Everything from putting the film onto a reel, mixing chemicals, and then playing around in the dark room! I used many rolls of film with this sucker. I think I need to break it out again.

I also have an old Polaroid, but I won't be able to take many more pictures with it. I think I can take three and that's the end of it.

I like this thread. I run a part-time wedding photography business on the side and use a Nikon D7000 and a Nikon D90 both with vertical grips. My lenses are: 50mm 1.8, 60mm 2.8, and 18-200mm VR 3.5-5.6. Also have a SB-800 for fill flash and some Alien Bees strobes for indoor stuff. My website is: http://adammcclurephotography.com. Dark room junkie here. Not much digital stuff but for film I got 35mm through medium and large formats. The whole process is a blast shooting, developing, and enlarging - all of it. I got a ton of stuff developed but not much scanned yet. here's a few though:









Expired Velvia had a weird cast to it.




First three are with a Pentax 67 and the last one is with a Rollei 3.5F, there's some bigger versions of these and some more here at flickr. I go on tour a lot with my friends bands but I mainly shoot non-live stuff, more just behind the scenes hangin. The fella in the first pic does most of the actual even photography and he's a very talented gentlemen.

I'm in the last semester of college with a photography major and am finally learning Medium format. We're required 35mm and 4x5 before we're even allowed to take a digital course, but a medium format camera is never required. Fuck, was I missing out. We have a few Mamiyas and a few Hasselblads we can check out. I love the combined ease of 35mm and the careful planning of 4x5 that medium format brings. I'm tempted to sell my DSLR and work towards getting my own Hasselblad.

The head of the photography program, David Rathbun, is the best. So many great stories, including many of him just hanging out and photographing with Ansel Adams. I have an independent study with him currently with the medium format stuff and he always shows me some rad music like Tahitian Choir music or Water Drumming from Africa. One of the first professors to get me looking at the world in a different way, especially with color. I fucking love color.

Working on what i'm calling digital destruction and seeing if I can use it in an expressive way other than just "hey that looks neat." Example below, nothing too profound about it, but I wanted to destroy a digital file in comparison to destroying a negative.

^^^ I loved using the 4x5 cameras at my school. A 4x5 with a digital back, now that was some good shit! I miss those days. So much fun. If you get a chance to take a class on alternative processes (Van Dyke Brown, Cyanotype, Platinum and Palladium), do it!! Cool stuff you posted, that last one's the best!

Digital deconstruction is such an amazing/fun concept for me, which is funny because I'm really not a fan of negative abuse

Despite them both being destructive to the image, they do seem to hold very different meanings. I'm trying to figure out what purposefully degrading a photograph means digitally. I had a fun discussion with the guy who takes care of the darkrooms about the love-hate relationship a lot of photographers (not most, but a lot) have with digital photography. I think there is more meaning to be found with digital deconstruction than just a rejection of digital perfection.

Btw I dig your more behind the scenes approach. Whenever I take photographs at a local gig I tend to enjoy the photographs off stage of musicians and audience much more.

Thanks! You should definitely look into it. The one I used was like $30k but only like 7MP, not cheap. It was heavily stressed that if we broke or damaged that sensor we'd we shit up the creek.
