I would say less gainy, and yea you can add in some much extra bass. Its insane. But Bass OCD might be more where you are at. In all actuality the scheme for an OCD and a RAT are not hugely different but small tweaks to the biasing and EQ of the clipping circuits cause huge changes in the flavor of the pedal

Less gainy and more bass would be fine by me since it will technically be used more as a booster for me. Yeah I'm still stuck on the Bass OCD, I even have a spot waiting for it on my bass board. The recent downfall of the VB-2 is gonna leave me low on funds though....

Definitely can. My friends did that. Just pull up the format from your thesis guidelines and reformat the publications. By the time you are done, you write an intro and a conclusions and you are done. Mine was only different cause i was summarizing a lot of unpublished work and had a very short amount of time to do it in.

I've owned like...six rats. A big box reissue, a Rat 2, a Rat Tail, a Dirge FKR, a Biyang Mouse, and now this. I only like this one, and the Rat Tail. They've ALL sounded different.

It's hit and miss, essentially.

This is what I've found. I've played originals, reissues, DIY clones, boutique iterations, etc. and all the controls function in slightly different ways, eliciting different results.

:( Grad school, The biggest waste of 5 years of my life. Not entirely, but still. I would have a PhD if i had gone to a different school/Chosen a differnt advisor. 5 years and only a MS in Chemistry. BOoooo.

I'm sort of fine with it now, but it would have been nice making double what i make now. hahaha.

I do not miss writing my dissertation though. I lost about 40 pounds while doing it, Slept about 2 hours a night and lived off of red bull for 3 months. You guys can have that.

This is one of my concerns. I am interested in going back to school and studying electrical engineering, but apart from the extremely complex maths I won't be able to do, I don't want to spend the next three, four years studying stuff that doesn't pertain to the field I'm interested in.

I'm really interested in the Volt Thrower. It sounds like it removes all the issues I have with the RAT design.

I feel like our conversations keep going back into RAT territory. I'm thinking of trading one of my rats for a phaser just to remove the slight redundancy. What do you guys think of the old small stone from sovtek (green box). I hear the bypass is shit and there is a volume drop off, is it fixable?

Also all you guys are really making me want the old big box but they seem to cost 200 bucks now. For that price, I don't know if it's worth the mojo.

Big Box Sovtek has a nice phase, but like you said the bypass is horrible and there is a pretty decent volume drop. With as much space that is in there you could probably wire it for true bypass and stick something simple like a Super Hard On in there post-phase with an internal trimmer instead of a knob to control the amount of gain after the phasing to bring it back to unity

2, but I'm not one to have extra shit. I think I'm going to keep this rat, I thought the volume drop was easier to fix than that. I'm gonna pass on that because he wants the trade plus some cash. I'm not down for that jazz especially for a phase that might sound good but needs too much for me to give a shit. Especially since I don't need it at all, just kinda have a single space for something if I take off the rat from my board.

Amp smart-arses: my FX loop is really fucking quiet. I've never had to use the FX loop before, and earlier I went and bought some new cables to plug my RE-20 in through the loop and it's really really quiet. The amp itself loses no volume, but the effect in the loop sounds like it's coming from underneath or something. I stuck a couple pedals in there, and it's definitely the loop.

It has no volume control or switch, so there's no obvious fix. Thoughts?

sounds like its a -10dB vs +4dB type problem. Your effect might be looking for +4dB and its only getting -10dB

You can boost the output of your FX loop with a clean booster, or mod your FX loop to have a larger signal output
