Re: The shaving thread
I've used some razors that I needed to change roughly every second shave. It was awful.

NUH-UH FUCK YOUR BEARDS BRUH
I just used the old gillette tech, chank. It felt amazing with the grain, which maybe I'll stick to. I did it against the grain and damn am I in pain! I'll have to brush up on my technique. It hurt with and against the grain with cartridge razors, so so far it's already an improvement!

Re: The shaving thread
Recently had my first shave with my safety razor. Best shave ever. No razor burn and no ingrown hairs. I actually shaved off my entire beard, so that goes to show how much these razors fucking rule.
I had to use an electric razor with two or three different guards to trim my beard down to a decent stubble. Then I used the razor with no guard on it to trim it down to almost nothing. After that I have my hot shower before I even bother shaving. My technique still needs some work, but I think I only had one nick. It was still a close fucking shave and I'm stoked on the results. Too bad it'll be a long time before I shave my whole face again.

Re: The shaving thread
I just got a safety razor yesterday actually. Not going back to a multi blade now. I expected it to have a bigger learning curve than it did, so there's no reason to be afraid of it if you are used to new razors.
Now I need to get a good shaving soap. Current one is a little tough to lather. Works well enough for the shave though.
Felt a little bored with the beard so I decided to go straight to babyface. Still looks strange, but it feels nice. It had been months since I shaved with a manual razor.

Fuck that.
It's time to grow our beards back and let them mingle.

Re: The shaving thread
Every 10 months or so I shave my head with some electric clippers. Every month or two, I shave my face with the same clippers.
I've been married for 18 yrs, so that might have something to do with it.

Re: The shaving thread
I'm bumping this fucking thread.
I need a recommendation for double edge razor blades.
I've usually used Merkur blades and have liked 'em. Recently I've been shaving with Wilkinson Swords and don't like 'em as much.
I think the Wilkinsons are sharper than the Merkurs. I've been nicking myself more lately.
I don't really care that much about a close shave. A passable shave is OK by me.
Based on all of this, any suggestions?
Thanks.

Re: The shaving thread
Supposedly Astra blades are mighty comfy without being as sharp as Wilkinsons.
My friend swears by Feather blades but says those are insanely sharp.

Re: The shaving thread
Thank you, sir, yeah, those are two brands I'm considering.
The Feathers are supposed to be insanely sharp. Most likely too sharp for my skin.
I used to get more shaves out a Merkur than I probably should. The Wilkinsons are really only good for like three or four. So, blade longevity is also a plus.
