What was your first concert?

Post by DallasLemonade »

I figured this would be interesting :idk:
my first was seeing Weird Al Yankovic at the Alabama Theatre in kindergarten. So much fun. I had to take my little brother to see him in montgomery a few years ago and it was still such a fun show.

First big boy concert for a band I really wanted to see was The Faint in high school (like '06). It was fucking bad ass.

I went to a radio show when I was 15 (2000-2001) it was in a mowed down corn field. Puddle of Mudd, Sevendust, Nickelback, and a couple of other bands played and Dave Mirra and a bunch of his bmx buddies were out there doing a demo. It was probably the most fun I had ever had up to that point. I remember Sevendust being really cool and that was right around when I really started liking heavy music. Nickelback was Nickelback, but they also weren't famous yet, so it was just mediocre music from a bunch of Canadians nobody knew  From that point on I would try and go to shows as often as I could.

My first concert was the Flaming Lips/Stone Temple Pilots/Butthole Surfers in the summer of '93. It was a fucking awesome show.

First club show was at TT the Bears on my 18th birthday - they were 21+ at the time, but my uncle knew everyone there and sweet talked them into letting me in with Xs on the backs of both my hands. The bands didn't matter, I just wanted to go to a "real" rock club. As I recall, one of the bands was the Chameleons (U.K.), which didn't mean anything to me at the time (d'oh), because the headliners way overshadowed them on WTF-factor: they were named Iron Sausage, and seemed to be a parody of LA hair metal. The singer came on stage drinking from a bottle of Jack, and they weren't able to finish a single song. Apparently they were a thing in Boston at the time, because I've talked to other people who've seen them, and couldn't tell if they were a put-on or not either.

My first arena rock show was Jimmy Page on the Outrider tour - I was probably in Jr High. It was my father's idea (that was our big bonding thing when I was a teenager - driving down to Portland ME for arena rock shows), but it totally blew my mind. Lasers! Loud volume! Dudes totally getting high right in front of us! Yep, the beginning of the end, my friends...

First show I remember was in 1991. I was 12. A guy who rode my dad's train into Chicago had a box at the World Music Theater in Tinley Park, IL. He would give away his tickets when he didn't want to see an event. My dad made a date that fell through, so I became his date. We saw Extreme open for Cinderella open for David Lee Roth. Terrible concert.

The first concert I ever bought tickets for was in 1993. I was 14, and I took my girlfriend to go see Blind Melon open for Soundgarden open for Neil Young. Truth be told, I was only there for Neil Young, and for potential second base action.

I used to go to a lot of concerts, but not anymore. I'm in a nice mid-30s, get-out-of-debt rut. Unless it's free, or the artist is someone who is on my must-see-before-one-of-us-dies list, I don't go to concerts. Last concert I saw was Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, March of last year. Before that, I saw Buddy Guy in 2009 or 2010. Before that was David Grisman, and before that was a series of free concerts, including James Brown a year before he died, and George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic.

Fun memories brought back by this topic.
