I live in Melbourne and I love it dearly, but lately I don't know if my life is going to get any better here. I've been having thoughts about moving overseas to either NYC and Berlin. I loved Berlin when I visited and haven't been to NYC. I hear NYC is fairly hectic and I'm a pretty laid back guy, but I feel that is part of my problem - I need a kick up the ass.
Have any of you made any major moving decisions and had to leave behind everything? Or can anyone swing me in any way? I'm not against staying here in Melbourne either.
nyc aint that hectic no more i feel like everyone in the world should spend an extended period of time there it willmake you a better person ive never been out the country though id love to see germany when i moved out to portland, or a couple years ago kinda had a meltdown of the " im gonna die alone" sort gave away all my shit dufflebag and a skateboard sometimes change of scenery is good for me it wasnt that great and i came back
I'd say steer clear of NYC. I grew up there. I have a very like/extreme hate relationship with it. The music scene isn't what it used to be - so much indie rock crapola and not enough METAL. It smells like poopie and people are rude. But that is me, just realizing that I don't like cities all that much anymore. I mean there are benefits like opportunities to meet people, play music, party, whatever you would want to do really, but NYC is so freaking expensive and unless you are rolling in dough say goodbye to buying nice gear/equipment/whathaveyou.
I am in Philly now. It is more laid-back, quiet, but it still has elements that I don't like. People are a bit friendly here and the music scene can be really awesome at times. It is smelly, but there are still trees here.
I am in the mountains of North Carolina right now on a little vacation and it is so beautiful here. I have been taking long-hikes in the wooded mountains, putting my life into perspective. I have been doing some thinking about where I want to move next. Changing up the scenery is very important. Staying in the same place can make you feel all stagnant - falling into routines. Travel around, see what YOU like - make a move - dont be scared!!!! there is a whole world out there!!!
never been to Berlin though i've always wanted to go. I love NYC, but it definitely is an intensive experience. my only recommendation is that you shouldn't move anywhere without visiting first...otherwise you could end up stuck somewhere you really don't want to be.
