Loaded Cab!
I am building a cab.
So far I gots a 18"X23"34" enclosure made of 7/8 pine. The baffle will be 34" mdf and the back will be more pine with a 3/8 lexan window that I can remove to make it open back. It si gonna start out as a two by twelve, not really intended for a specific sound or instrument, but for now it will be powered by a VHT special 6...
I kinda wanna try some different speakers.... I can get my hands on some older organ woofers at 25 watts, but I have my eyes on some warehouse brand speakers, specifically mixing the et65 (8ohms 65 watts)and a retro30 (8ohms 70watts).
Anybody out there got some experiences or favorite speakers can give me some direction. Maybe some alnico vs ceramic debate can be sparked?

Re: Speakers!For a Cab!2x12!
A big ass package came in today....two 12"ers, grill cloth and all the hardware I need. The speakers look incredibly well built, I can find no fault with the assembly. I hope they sound as good as they look. Imagonna try to get this bastard cab done this week.
I built this for my vht, but I am thinking of getting a new head....kinda want some orangy tones. I was thinking the Tiny Terror, but this goddamn micro terror came out and it is messing up my plans. Should I save up 400 bucks for a tried and tested Tiny Terror and have a real 15 watt screamer or keep 250 bills in my wallet and get a hybrid Micro Terror amp?

Thank you gentlemen for your kind words.
I gotta spend some hours playing through it and I will give you the skinny on those Warehouse speakers.
The Orange amp has yet to arrive....

Re: Loaded Cab!
Thanks Scully.
Hey Summit, I got no secrets worth keeping....the handles came from my local electronics store, KGE. They got no brand on them.
I got most of the other hardware from Steamco in Canada. They have good service and their speaker cloth was really reasonably priced.
As far as speakers go, the Warehouse one's I used are a great deal. I'm gonna put up a better review later when they have broken in some.

Re: Loaded Cab!
okay. The new cab is awesome. I can't pretend that I have a lot of experience with cabs, and I never really gave my speakers much thought before, but this was a really cool project that gave me the opportunity to mess around with tone. Mixing speakers really adds depth. It creates a warm tone that devours fuzz, and makes clean tones more interesting while remaining articulate and bright. I used the cab with a 6 watt class A and a 15 watt Tiny terror, and both amps had great overtones, a booming low end, and a really killer sound. Fuck it is awesome.
I did find a nice deal on a slightly used Tiny Terror. This amp is amazing. I don't get why some people are saying shit like it doesn't take pedals or it has no headroom..... As far as I am concerned it responds great to dirt pedals and has the headroom that you would expect from a good 15 watt tube amp. The gain knob is particularly interesting and gets some some pretty intense tones when pushed beyond 3 o'clock. Fiddling with the volume and gain knobs gives lots of tonal variations.
In sum, this rig makes me sound way better than I have a right to.
