Re: Ever afraid to write a bad review of a popular pedal?
Nahp- I agree with ya, and I think a lot of people here do too: The Klon sucks. We won't buy it here for sure, but TGP TOTALLY will get you that new engagement ring for your invisible girl!
I've not held back reviews about pedals- not every pedal is going to work for EVERY person. I still have yet to find a Black Arts Toneworks Pedal that I truly enjoy...

In fact - the KLON is a great example of the question posed above. When I first got a KLON (back in 2003?-ish) I was blown away by how mediocre and unimpressive it was. I already had a killer collection of vintage pedals and was just starting to jump on the 'boutique' bandwagon. The KLON was THE pedal to find/have back then amongst the session players in LA, so I got one. Boring city. Over the years I bought and sold a few more of them on whims, and even a few clones - all of which ended up on ebay or as trade fodder for something else.
Now almost 10 years later, I bit once again on the new pedal fad. And once again - totally deflated. I searched the web and forums for ANYTHING but a rave review of this new pedal, but none can be found. Apparently Im the only one who thinks it's lifeless, weak, uninspired and overpriced. And I'm almost afraid to burst the bubble - to point out the emperors new clothes - for fear of an endless fuzz-flame-war.
I'll just end up putting it up here or somewhere else for sale under the guise of needing to buy an engagement ring for my imaginary girlfriend or something - god forbid I sell it "because it sucks".
Anyone else ever hold back a bad review because you'd be the first?
I think you should write what ever you want. It is you experience, it your your voice. I don't write b ad reviews because I feel if I don't like the pedal I am not going to waste my time saying anything about it other then it sucks which I can just say on every forum and be done with it. BUT! If you feel that this pedal sucks and you think telling people it sucks and why might be helpful to others then go for it if you want.

I write a lot for my college paper and some small blogs in the city I live in. Every now and again I'll have to review a really crappy local band and I get second thoughts about how honest I should be about their record. Honestly though, people that get indignant about reviews and reviewers are fucking children. Reviews are simply opinions, not gospel fact. If anybody gives you shit about the klon review just tell them to go write their own.

Re: Ever afraid to write a bad review of a popular pedal?
i would feel bad about trashing a pedal from a builder i like, but i just wouldn't do that. people that aren't moronic butt sniffing blues lawyer bastahds won't get up in your shit for saying you don't dig a pedal. hell, they'd appreciate the honesty.
and what i hear when somebody says something sucks is that it didn't work for them with their setup. like, i love Fairfield stuff, but it just doesn't cut through enough with my rig. that's all i'd say. can't get it to sound good for me and shit.

Poly-Grace? smallBrian/bigBrian is a peach, he won't mind a bad review if it's constructive.

What is it? I don't see anything wrong with writing bad reviews, because if that's how you feel about it then that's how you feel and being honest is cool.
And anyone who isn't a fucking child can deal with bad reviews by just ignoring them.
