Not trying to start the old relic argument,...I could care less if the aesthetic is factory or put on by years and years of love; I love me a P Bass and I have considered the "road worn" P's in the past. But I think I'm gonna put some effort into a Green Chinese P bass copy and hot rod it.

I'm all for hot rodding cheap guitars. The Precision I got is the road worn line. The "road worn" aspect of it doesn't really bother me, the second I picked up this line of basses and played them, I fell in love with the feel, playability, and sound. I would of gone with an AVRI, since those are also finished in nitro, but none at a good price have come up in my area. On the upside, this has a thinner layer of nitro, which makes it feel ever smoother and the notes breath off the wood like no later bass I've ever played. Definitely glad to finally find someone selling one.

They are definitely sweet basses, and I dig em...but the only ones available locally are new ones. No one is buying them so maybe they will wind up in the clearance shop at some point,...but I can hardly justify paying new prices for a bass when patience will usually get me a good deal on one that is similarly awesome.

Or I can buy a bass for 50 bucks and invest $3-$400-ish on a neck, bridge, tuners, pups and strings and get a similarly awesome bass.

Definitely agree, man. I waited months and months until one came up on Craigslist for a fair price. Luckily, I had a decent bass already to hold me til then. I was thinking of going the modded way before I got this but it would cost around the same as I got this for and still wouldn't have that thin nitro finish, which I think adds to all the resonance and feel. I recently came across a website that does build to order fender type bodies and necks with full nitro finishes. I think I'm going that route for my next bass and have all the modern P upgrades while keeping this road worn stock. One for studio, one for live. Plus I've always wanted a nitro Surf Green Precision

When the Road Worn's first came out I was almost universally impressed with every one I played. They were almost all light and they played and sounded better than the MIM's and MIA's on the walls. Nothing wrong with those in my book.

Considering the quality form all the good reviews and comparisons to Fender Custom Shop and Nash guitars, I think they are a bargain. Plus you can still choose whatever hardware and electronics you want. It's kind of a win win in my book if I'm planning on building a kit guitar. My plan is to do a Jazzmaster and a Precision bass. Hopefully by tax return season I can start :thumb:

I felt the same way, man. I played as many P's as I can get my hands on and I was genuinely impressed with all the road worn P's I picked up. I never minded the relic look, it looks great in person and it's not as extreme as some people make it out to be. Regardless, I would have gotten it with or without it if it still felt the same. It truly is one of the best basses I have felt and played. Thanks, man. Plus the weight reduction going from a Peavey T40 to this is going to be wonderful on my back and shoulder :animal:

Fuck, that Surf Green P Bass is so good. That's how a "relic'd" intrument should look! :thumb:

Definitely. That's exactly how I'm building mine. Everything exact besides maybe a BA bridge and Schaller strap locks :yay:
