you and I might have a mutual acquaintance in Gavin at Valvolux? He just fixed my bass head and was talking about your work when I mentioned I played an aluminium guitar.

Re: Harvester Guitars

bandsaw, file, sand, buff, drill, tap, bolt ...
latest progress on the Silvertone Jupiter shaped Harvester.
i've used a sandwich of aluminium ( 5,4,5mm ) to build up to 14mm - the necessary headstock thickness for these ( non locking ) sperzel tuners.
i learned from the prototype that the tuners are under a lot of strain on these designs - hence the switch to more modern screw-in-ferrule style tuners.
this one has jumped ahead while we decide on details for the offset one.

ignore the random colours of the resin parts on these ^ they're just there to help with layout.
cheers, AP

Re: Harvester Guitars
Oh my god, this is so gorgeous. Can't wait to see it finished. You chose to continue on my favorite one too!
Are these going to be for sale? What are you thinking about prices (not that I have the funds to actually buy one, but I'd like to know any way.) Is this a single project or are there going to be more? What do you think about the Wandre neck construction? From everybody who raves about alu necks the word is they have more sustain and richer harmonics. Is this still the case if you use a hollow alu tube to buil the neck upon? I always thought that Wandre necks would not have those classic characteristics because they're hollow. Or maybe just sound different in some way.

hey there,
these are already sold ( except for the bass, maybe i'll get to keep it ? )
yes, i'm planning another batch of 4. i buy the raw material for the necks in 4m lengths and get it milled to the correct dimension on a big old mill that mills 900mm at a time. therefore i get 4 guitars out of a shipment of alum. ( i might double that amount for the next batch and do 8 ? )

minimum prices are on the front page ( scroll down ) of my site http://www.harvesterguitars.com
i have played one wandre many years ago, it did have some of the travis bean harmonic shimmer to it, but was such a lightweight/hollow guitar that it also had a sort of dobro kind of ring to it.
my guitars use solid 6061, from tuner to tail just like travis ( give or take a few pounds and four stainless steel bolts ) and they have a similar sound when amplified. long sustain, tons of harmonic content to the chords etc
i have a TB1000s here in the workshop for comparison and one of my customers already owns an EGC. we've ABC'd them at high volume through my old vibrolux.

gotta watch that white one ... he's fond of chewing on things, i'll find him up the back yard with a chunk of something in his mouth and i never know if it's a bit of $2 dog toy or a priceless vintage guitar knob.
