given the Obama administration's war on medical marijuana, they'll probably occupy CO and WA with Federal troops.

:idk: I'm actually on the fence still even though I did vote for it... On one hand I think it being illegal is silly and a waste of tax money to fight.. on the other hand I feel it might in some way might undercut the medical angle... :idk: I don't do drugs and rarely drink so it doesn't have much effect on my life... but I have a LOT of friends that... well...

I don't smoke nearly as much as I used to. maybe once a year? But it'll be interesting to see how this plays out in tax dollars. Are all the stoners right in saying it's gonna fix the economy, or is it gonna fail miserably? I personally only used it medically, because I'd rather smoke a bowl than take a xanax.

We are too far down the hole for that kind of tax to be vapor let alone a drop. :idk:

the amount of taxes they'll collect from marijuana is de minimis compared to the massive state deficits and obligations for, e.g., bloated public employee pensions. the "fix the economy" jive is just a variation on the "wonders of hemp, the miracle plant" BS the marijuana lobby has been pushing for years.

I despise the medicinal system as it is and am totally for recreational legalization.

I think you're underestimating it a bit. If, somehow, marijuana was sold and distributed in a similar model to alcohol sales currently, there would be a significant amount of tax revenue coming in. As it is I don't see that type of system developing anyway, let alone these measures surpassing any federal suppression. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.
But I agree with you that compared to other parts of the dysfunctional system, the "miracle plant" is not going to fix all of the problems.
All that said, it's about fucking time. :yay:

Wouldn't it save some money too by not shoving people in jail over weed?

But if marijuana is still illegal on a federal level, how does legalizing weed on a state level in Colorado change anything? Do state and local police just ignore recreational users? Also the tax revenue, is this coming from sales of marijuana distributed by the state? Will marijuana growing and distrusting be state run or privatized and heavily regulated?
