Don't know much about them, but from their related videos they seem a little extreme.

Well it is funny, but they're talking about a pertinent issue.

Basically, Republicans are making voting more difficult by requiring photo ID's which are something elderly voters, poor voters and minorities are much less likely to have. The reasoning being that it cuts own on voter fraud, specifically people voting multiples times for the same candidate, which has been shown by study after study to be practically non-existent.
Either way, that video was hilarious. Especially the part about old, dead people watching you have sex.

This whole thing is a bunch of BUNK... If you can register to Vote and have a Voter Card mailed to your house why cant you have an ID... This is America we have to have an ID for EVERYTHING so I don't see what's all Big Brother about showing it to Vote... If you don't like it, stay home like 60% of registered Voters do anyway...

Not trying to get into a politifuss, but speaking just as a designer, any time you add a point of friction to any process, you shave off a significant number of users. And while it's true, people should just be prepared (as Henry Rollins says, I show up to the airport three hours early, wearing two extra pairs of underwear JUST IN CASE!!!), the point of a democracy isn't to make shit harder for people to vote. It's to get as many people to vote as possible (I KNOW I KNOW THAT ISN'T REALLY THE POINT BUT TECHNICALLY ONE NARRATIVE ABOUT IT IS).
Politicos know that whole bit about friction, and use it. The actual incidence of voter fraud is so incredibly miniscule, this whole notion of requiring photo IDs is just ridiculous, and a total fucking cover for what they want, which is to reduce the actual number of people coming out to vote.

That may all be well and true, I'm just talking about the argument that people don't have I.D.'s... Who doesn't??? Show me how I can live without mine and it's toast...

The other thing, to receive most benefits (i.e. Most shelters, Most food banks, Food Stamps, SSI, SSDI, Medicare, Medicaid, temporary housing programs....etc) you HAVE to have an ID. I've been working with the mentally ill homeless for close to five years, now. It's very rare to come across a person without an ID. When I do, they've always gotten one within a day so that we could start serving them.
The world is also round.

You really don't need a photo ID for everything, as it turns out. If you take the bus to your minimum wage job that you work at for most of the hours the DMV is open, you might just not have one. You can usually use different forms of identification on the instances you need them. Other than driving, I only use mine to buy booze.
If these laws were slowly phased in, along with programs to help people easily get the IDs (perhaps send people around like they do Census workers or auditors?) and maybe use one election to document whether or not the program to get IDs in the hands of those that didn't have them worked, then it'd be great. But pushing these laws through the year before the election and claiming you're combating something that doesn't exist is sorta bullshit and hella fishy.
I think photo IDs are a good idea, but as long as it's not causing a problem it's probably something that should be dealt with slowly.
Also, that video was hilarious.
And let's be nice to eachother and calmly state our opinions. : D (which has been happening so far, I was just... saying it preemptively)

Guys..........
The programs to help people get IDs are already out there. They help with transportation and even pay the $10 to 20 to get the ID (remember, we're talking just IDs and not driver's licenses). It's really part of my job. I don't have to it often since most people have IDs, but it's quite easy and it gets resolved quickly when they don't. This has also been an issue that's been going on for years. It's not new. It's not just for this election. I'm all about freedom of speech but sometimes I wish politicians could be held accountable for spreading false information the way that they do. One party making people think IDs are gold and hard to come by is just the tip of the ice berg. I'm not saying it's just one party, either. Both of them make sure their followers are ignorant of facts to push their agenda.
