Yeah, I totally dig the unpolished look of your necks, I think it just looks like something that you're SUPPOSED to play

hmmm, i guess you're looking at the unfinished guitars there ... i've only completed the one metalneck proto at this stage and it's buffed to a mirror polish, i love the contrast with the oiled padauk/rosewood - it's like old scandinavian modern furniture or vintage speedboats or something.
the difference when first buffing the necks is amazing ... aluminium gets a beautiful melted edge kind of look to the details - it's easy to overdo it and round off the corners too much.
having owned a travis bean for 20 years i can say that the 6061 goes 'off' very slowly after polishing it takes 6 months to start to oxidise and go grey and then it looks like your average motorcycle engine finish-wise.
cheers, AP

Ah yeah, I was looking at the new offsets you've been making up. My bad!
But yes, I love the contrast between the dark wood and the aluminum, so classy.
I love that you're thinking outside the box with these builds. They're so fresh

Re: Harvester Guitars
cool, thanks !
well, what's not to love ?

i'll be writing a wanky, bloggy page for my site about aluminium history ( and aluminum history too ! )
its so satisfying to work with, alternated with wooden instruments and contrasting it with wooden sections on the guitars.

i'll be away for a week but then these will be back on the bench fulltime, i'll post new photos here as well as my site, facebook etc etc
what should i do ? how;s this place work ? should i add to this thread, start a 'build thread' for each instrument ?

yeah he's up in northcote. I have a baritone he made for me and he's currently working on a bass too. Preeeeettty stoked. The neck has a definite obstructures feel. I wasn't 100% sold on the tuners like that at first but Gary talked me around and I've come to really, really love it.
Actually I think you and I might have a mutual acquaintance in Gavin at Valvolux? He just fixed my bass head and was talking about your work when I mentioned I played an aluminium guitar.
