Re: dealing with ex-bandmates
woof. shit was MAD fun just me and Paul last night. we both had a blast, had a lot of giddy little kid talkin's about what we can do to make Just Two Doods more interesting. still want someone else to bounce off musically, but i'm comfy like this until we find someone. yay!
favorite thing like 4 or 5 people said last night (TOTAL dive bar, we didn't invite any friends, was 4 bands and like MAYBE 20 other people, we really wanted a mellow Try It Out situation) to us was, "you guys... make a LOT of noise for two people!". HAH!
Least Favorite? "you sound like Primus meets Tool!". i... get that's s'posed to be a compliment, but indon't really dig on Tool, and while Les is fucking awesome, i think i sound nothing like him (him - amazing, me - meh) and it's kinda annoying that THAT'S always the comparison. whatevah. shits was FUN.

Ha. I would be all about the Tool thing and punching bitches in the face for comparing me to Primus.

You better get used to the Primus thing Behndy. 99.9% have never seen someone tapping on bass other than Claypool, so that is the instant connection pretty much everyone is going to make. As for the Tool thing, even if you don't like them, it's almost definitely intended as a compliment. Most casual non-musician music fans consider Tool to be the standard complex and progressive band that isn't Rush.

Re: dealing with ex-bandmates
The guys from Tool are not the most amazing players, individually......but they just play so well together. There's so many nuances to strumming patterns and things like that. Really cool to sit down and pick out. I love bands that are all about the song as a whole and making great combined music. Kinda the total opposite of Primus....that kinda feels like it's all about playing fast and crazy individually.
And yes, on the Primus thing. I get that and Flea when I play and I don't even tap. It's like people coming up to me when I'm rocking my Glockenklang and saying "man, I bet you wish you had an Ampeg". Fucking tards.

And that's why I hate both of them...

Re: dealing with ex-bandmates
lol. oh, i'm used to it. not only is there the 6 string thing, trying to tap and chord a bit, ending up being more fronty than the "traditional" (or BULLSHIT) bass player role..... but also growing up in the same hood and i gigging (way smaller places mostly) at the same time Primus was coming up out here... yeah. i've heard, "DOOOOOOooood! you must LOVE Les Claypool!!" forever. if it's not another bass player i take it as a compliment. i'll never be as good as him, and i did love all the earlier stuff.
don't hate Tool either. don't really know them. lol. Paul LOVES Danny Carey or whatever the Tool drummer's named. we went and saw them at a TINY club in LA he does a side project at. he's a helluva drummer. but that kinda music is just boring to me. nothing wrong with it, just not my thing.
...... i would pee myself in happiness if somebody said Tom Jenkinson or Richard D. James.

Dead nuts right on all of this, not much more I can add.
I would def take it as a compliment.
If by some chance they said you sound like "behold the arctopus" I would stab them in the eye with whatever allen/truss rod key you might have nearby.

Or you could just kill yourself for being in a band that sounds like Behold The Arctopus.

Re: dealing with ex-bandmates
urf. i dunno. i kinda like the free-form-yet-together'ness of just the two of us, we're going to work on using chopped up effects tweaked vocal samples on Paul's sampler/trigger thinger and mebbe the keyboard i'm going to try to use..... but i like SONGS. i love instrumental stuff, some people slay it, but when i listen to music that's not all electro i like to be able to sing (horribly) along. dunno if i want to totally give that up. and iiiiiiiiiiii am NOT going to sing. i can't. like, i couldn't even if that was all i was doing. but i can barely talk like a retarded 4 year old and play at the same time. no WAY could i do Appropriate Mouth Noises whilst playing.
it IS cool to be able to keep going while we're looking for somebody. takes a lot of the pressure off too.... we can be WAY choosy and not ignore little red flags (somebody over 20 that thinks they're going to MAKE IT, someone that doesn't have a steady job, hasn't for a long time, doesn't WANT one.....). 'm happy and/or escited.

the first part, well.... yeah. that's a given. is their any way to fight that DOESN'T involve your cock?
the second part..... are you coming on to me? i have this hysterical image of being bent over and that being the advice when the realization sets in that there's no lube to be had.
