I'll have to try it out tomorrow or Wednesday when it isn't super late. The strings are pretty stiff at this height and a pretty decent effort to bend. Do you think adding even more pressure would be okay?

After playing JM's for several years, i've realized 1) they sound better with heavier strings 2) stay in tune better with heavier strings 3) i'm a masochist because i don't mind it.
You won't be changing the action so much as much as you'll be changing the break angle over the bridge - yes, it will make it a bit more stiff, learn to love it, your strings won't pop out!

heh. Yeah I suppose it'd be a little less painless than $165. I'm just worried that the .14's might be too tight but I can give it a shot

I don't play that low ever, but I can't imagine .14s being easy to bend ever and would feel too tight to me. Even .12s at that scale feel crazy to me (though again, mostly standardish tuning)
I've had a long and twisted road of bridges with my JM. It currently has a Mastery on it and I've been SO stoked every time I pick it up and play it.
I know it's a lot of dough, but it's pretty great. Maybe pick one up used? That's how I swung mine.

I actually got a Mastery! It was delivered last week and I am SO happy with it. I actually dropped the tuning into Bass VI territory now on the 28 5/8" scale. Its ridiculously awesome

YES! It's incredible, really. Not a string has popped, jumped, or even THOUGHT of moving with the Mastery. I tested it out by thrashing on the bridge for a good 2-3 minutes both right in front of and right behind and nothing moved at all. I'm in love

Yeah, just a tad, but I like it a lot. The harmonics are great and it's really just freed up all my worries and concerns while playing it. Still trying to figure out if I'll keep it in such a low tuning, but it's turned a good guitar into a great guitar!

Yeah dude, I want to come and hang out and intonate all my guitars since I've modded them or built them since the last time was over and record all our jamz and such!

Sounds like a plan! I'll have to check the calendar, I've got a 200watt bass / guitar amp shootout to record and film first. So far i think we have 5 heads lined up and 3 cabinets. Should be killer. After that we can schedule a day for a good ole noise jam!!!

I have slight trouble with the low E popping out, i just ordered a set of TUSQ saddles this morning so i hope that should help me
also... do the help staying in tune in any way when using the trem arm? like the strings might slip over them a bit more and stuff?
