Thinking about Franken J'ing to Franken P'ing

Post by skullservant »

So I've got a Squier P bass. And a Johnson J bass. Thinking about creating an unholy union of the two by using the Johnson's maple neck on the black Squier P bass body and routing the p'up cavity, and throwing my Electrical Guitar Company p'up in it... If this pans out tonight I'll be sure to post pictures.

I guess this is better than trying to make my own body without any tools

Main concern with neck swapping on the P- I might have to throw the Johnson bridge onto the Squier. I know for sure I'll have to make two holes in the P bass body for the EGC p'up as it is rear loading (usually being attached to an aluminum neck.

I think it will look much cleaner than having a missing J-bass p'up route, an extra hole for that missing pickup, and I want a black on black body with maple neck. Sounds sooooo sexy

Turns out the body of the Squier was abut a quarter inch thinner than that of the J Bass. So I put the necks back on their respective bodies

How is this a real problem? Neck bolts too long? cut them down :thumb:

Look if I can chop a bass neck into a guitar this is totally do-ible :thumb:

I think I would have truly kept trying to swap them if I didn't realize they were the same size in the end. If one was longer than the other I would have put the longer one on the Squier with the EGC pickup!
