The upper jack is for depth and the lower jack is for rate.. 10k to 50k resistance will work just fine but make sure you don't use a volume pedal as one lug is grounded and that won't work properly with expression controls. Also make sure any dual exp pedal you buy doesn't have any lug grounded and also that the pots aren't connected together.. I've seen both situations with 'expression' pedals and that won't work.
