anybody wanna do me an engineering solid?
howdy ch'all.
sooooo.... my band is going in early August to record 5 or so songs at a bud's studio. before then we'd LURV to have a decent mix of a couple songs to Book Faces with and throw a ghetto video over. problem is, i don't know SHIT about mixing. we have two songs recorded out where the bass, drums, keys and vocals were recorded isolated on to their own track to a click, i'm sure they're not the best recordings (mic placement and recording Not Bass is something else i know nothing about)' especially the drums, but before i use my mighty Oh THAT Sounds Like It Should Be Louder skeelz...... any of you find lads or ladies want to do me a huge favor and take a wack at mixing them?
we'll have the final bits (some vocal work) all recorded by this Thursday, i was hoping i could find someone that could pimp them up sorta quick (trying to get them up soon since we're gonna record at an actual spot in a month'ish). there'd be mad love in it for you, some dap on sites we post them on, HUGZ. trying to stay stoopid cheap (freeeeeee) for these two since they're sorta placeholders.
thanks! MEOW.

Since I have no idea how to do it, I'll try and help by drawing attention to it.

If you end up having to do it yourself, put a high-pass on everything but the bass and kick. /random advice.

BOOP.
PollinNow?PollinLATER! - yah. the (acoustic, the electroinc were just lined in) drums were done with three mics, kick, cymbals and snare yarea. i GET that eq'ing certain sections put would help a lot, and i can play with that stuff, but it's soooooo out of my wheelhosue. like, everytime i've ever gotten decent results i've had no fucking idea what i did right, so it's not even a good learning experiance.
lulz. i need to stop being an idgit and take a few mic'ing/mix'ing classes. we get a decently isolated for just ideas room recording with 2 mics on drums (bass and EVARYTHANG ELSE), bass mic, then then splitting the pa cabs so vox come out one speaker, keys and electro drums come out the other. just wanted something BETTAH since it's gonna be all public and all.

If you're really desperate, I could give it a shot. Check my Crotchthrottle stuff for a sense of what I do - nothin crazy, but maybe it could help. Failing that, my bandmate in Monument Thief has a great setup, and REALLY knows what he's doing. I'd be happy to do whatever for whatever, he might want a little cash since he dorsn't have the ILF community connekshun. Get at me with a PM if you wanna discuss further.
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

Re: anybody wanna do me an engineering solid?
yay!
recordings were done with cheap CAD mics on the drums, a Beta58 for vocals, a Beta52 for bass, electronic drums and keys were lined in. all into a Motu Pre8 going into Cubase Elements 6. i could send either the Cubase files or the audio stubbed out into tracklong wavs/aifs/mp3's so they align in a sequencer easily.
thanks Jrmy, Derelictal. it would be awesome to have something decent until we get done with the studio shtuff.

And then put a low-pass on the bass. And trigger the drums. And nobody's going to judge you for auto-tuning everything.
I meant something like 40Hz to counter the proximity effect and remove muddiness, but I guess it depends on the kind of music.

Re: anybody wanna do me an engineering solid?
just clean up the mix with filters to take out all the useless rumble and noise
try to cut what you dont like about the instrument
use some basic comp and gating depending on what sound your after
get a nice balance you can start with overheads first or kick snare
try not to get your eq all jumbled up too
watch your levels while mixing
pan pan pan pan give everything its space
go nuts mixing is fun and theres a million ways to do it!
