I'm really liking Portugal right now, a lot of players from one of my favorite club teams (FC Porto) like Varela and Moutinho are on the squad and they are exciting to watch.

I was extremely disappointed with the Dutch (had them in the finals vs Germany), and Poland in this group stage. I shouldn't have been routing for Poland since Lewandowski and Kuba played a part in Bayern Munich (my club) not winning the treble this season. But then again the remaining spots on the DFB not being filled by Munich players are players for Dortmund... and Ozil... and Khedira... and I've always been a strong supporter of the Germans.

I was really impressed with the Swedes. What a game against France. Also, kind of surprised Russia didn't make it through after the way they played after that first game. Once again, I am complete ashamed of the way the Netherlands played. How can a team that is so stacked produce so few goals? Ironic how they were the top scoring team during qualifying. Looks like the Three Lions got promoted now that my number 2 team is done.

Wow, now that was dominance in the second half. Wonder what would happen if the opponent let them play like that and then counter really quickly. Oh, or just win the game in the first half.

Total German dominance. They've got to be favourites right now for the tournament.

I have to say, though, don't know if it was the slippy pitch, attacking overexuberance or something else today, but the Germans don't look great defensively. If a team is really willing to have a go at them, I think they'll be rewarded.

I,Galactus wrote:The pitch was shit, but I think over exuberance was definitely a factor. The boys need to learn to calm down and hold a 1-0 lead.

Gorgeous offensive maneuvers, though.

Well, they showed that in the first three matches, I think they were acting quite smart on the defensive side during the group phase. Now with three new players that all had something to prove, things were a little different. Maybe it was meant as a surprise for the greeks. I thought it was nice for a change. Also they seemed to want to rely on 1-0 but they got distracted, I think. And after getting the 1-1 it was the right thing to do to go all in and score them into oblivion.

Can't wait to see who plays Portugal.

Hm, my hopes of beating Spain tomorrow aren't very high. Damn it. The Portuguese aren't bad but probably not good enough. I guess they will start out dominating the game for like 15 - 20 minutes. Then they will lay back a little and nothing will happen for another 45 minutes while the spanish keep the ball in their ranks and some but few desperate attacks from the portuguese will happen (thinking of at least one solo show by Ronaldo) and desperate savings by Bruno Alves, Pepe and Rui Patricio will happen. But the Portuguese will get more and more frustrated while the Spanish calmly dominate the game and score two goals in the last half hour.

Italy vs. Germany is a lot more tricky. Italy is very strong with an old-fahioned philosophy and they are the team that I liked best so far. The Germans have a different style that is more like the spanish way. But the Italians have already shown that they can work well against such a game when they played against Spain. But Germany is more aggressive in their attacks so they might come through better than the Spanish did. Actually I kinda hope for Italy to win, because what they play is awesome and I get to root for Portugal in the match against Germany for the third place.

As I'm on my iPhone Im not really in the mood to type a long response...BUT, I'm feeling pretty good about you guys getting a win. You guys are great on the counter. PLENTY of speed. GREAT in the box, too. With Puyol missing, I think you'll work to exploit that. Stay confident.

I think you will win 2-1 or 3-2 with your winning goal coming in the last 10 minutes.

I'm thinking some Ronaldo magic could send Portugal through against Spain and really hope it does. Jao Moutinho will have to play great in midfield as well.

I think with Italy it all comes down to their finishing. If they play like they did against England, I don't think they'll stand a chance as I'm sure the Germans will take better care of the ball. I like both teams but I want to see a flash of brilliance from Balotelli to bring past the Germans, even though I like Di Natale more.
