Question about leaving my job
I work at a yoga studio, and a few months ago management changed. They are fucking terrible and a few co-workers and I are basically the managers, since my actual manager doesn't do shit. Since then, we've had a buttload of bad reviews on yelp and in in person, and it's fucking embarrassing having people come in and shit on me for something management failed to do, when I've been going above and beyond the call of duty (dramatic, yes, i know). I'm quitting soon because my uncle is getting me a job, but I'm still bitter about how horribly run this place is.
So here's my question:
IS it ok to write a poor review in which I state how terrible the management is, having it be apparent that I previously worked there? Can the people who run this place do anything, or would that be slander? I'k pretty sure I have that right but I just wanted to make sure.
Thanks.

I think you only have to worry about slander if what you say is false or has some elements in it that are false. However, you can be sued for defamation either way though. They may not win but you still have to defend it and that costs money. What's your motivation and what will you gain by doing so? How could your comments effect you in your industry?

it's generally best not to burn bridges. someone may call them for a reference the next time you're looking for a job.

It's also dependant on any contracts, and what they say, you may have signed upon being hired.

What kind of problems? If they're not with how you teach the class, just tell them to call the manager/make the manager come out/slash call the manager and hand the customer the phone. Also get used to explaining to them that you didn't create these problems.
I agree with others that you shouldn't burn your bridges despite how awesome it would be. And be glad you have another job lined up!

Re: Question about leaving my job
I didn't sign a contract, and references are fine, my old manager who has worked with me for far longer is my reference. I would want the many people who have given bad reviews to know where to navigate their hate, but I guess it's not worth it. Once I leave it won't mean anything to me, so I guess you're right.
I don't teach the classes, I work behind the counter and do all the administrative stuff and sign people in.
The problems? Management doesn't come in for a full week. They do not order anything so nothing is in stock, and at least 20 times a day we must inform the customer we don't carry what it is they're asking for. They don't keep up with scheduling so it's up to the co-workers to fight over shifts.
Most importantly, they consistently find the time they should use managing to berate us with emails concerning the complaints from customers that honestly should fall on their shoulders, not mine.
Not too long ago my manager threatened to fire me for some 7 day refund shit, which i had no control over. I dont have the administrative privilege on the work computer to refund a customer, and after 7 days (max refund time) the customer went to complain to management about me. Thing is.... I called my manager every fucking day to ask her to use her account to refund it(like i said, im not able) to which i got no response and no refund.
What the fuck.

I agree with everyone that it probably isn't a smart thing to do due to the burning bridges factor, but I just wanted to clarify something real quick.
Defamation is not a separate cause of action, it is the class of actions that include slander, libel, false light, etc. In the US, truth is an absolute defense to any defamation claim for any reason. (It ISN'T a defense to violation of privacy laws, but that's almost certainly not applicable here)
If anyone were to sue you for slander (or libel, since I assume you'll be doing this on the internet, which is technically considered to be "in writing"), it would be completely frivolous unless they could prove that what you said was false. That applies to anything you said that seems like a factual statement. Anything that is opinion, is not actionable, as opinion is another defense to all defamation actions (with a few very tiny exceptions)
Granted, all of this would probably still require that you get a lawyer to write the motion to dismiss / summary judgment for you, which would probably cost a least several hundred bucks to a few thousand. Unless you have an attorney in the family or something.

No need to burn that bridge, Is it part of a chain of studios? If I was planning on staying with the company I would get in contact with the owner and discuss your concerns. Since you're leaving I'd just let nature run its course with that place, it's either going to fail or get a big shakeup to correct the problems. There's no need in wasting any more energy on that place.

Thanks for the advice guys, I knew it wasn't a good idea, I kind of just needed somebody else to rationally tell me how stupid it would've been of me to do that because I can't even think straight with this crap.

Yep! I didn't mean to imply that it was different and used defamation as an umbrella term. My mistake and I do see how it could be read that way so thank you for clearing that up. I should have said, "...you can be sued for slander/defamation either way..."
