Their actually is. One thing I have realized, especially this morning playing some video games with the kid, is that if a woman is around, he's suddenly the alpha male in the house who has to have the final say. The funny part is the only woman happens to be his girlfriend anyways. I can't say anything to her (or hell any other male for that fact) without him becoming super fucking jealous and dominant. He just believes that he has to be that top guy, and most of the time we let him cause hes just a dick. Fuck politics, I'm here to have fun. So I just ignore him and just keep pissing him off.

I've always been the trolling anarchist in the house anyways. It's in my nature to fight stuff that I don't agree with, and not with violence, but with psychological warfare. I may not get results right away, but it sure does plant a seed that changes them eventually.

lol maybe I am the asshole here.

lol i had a roommate once that sounds similar to your roommate. one time he got all pissy about some random bullshit that he was more guilty of than anyone else in the house. threw a huge hissy fit in front of a bunch of our friends and tried to make it seem like it was all our fault and none his. well i wasn't having it so when he wasnt around, i rubbed his cellphone all over my sweaty balls and gooch and put it back.
i'm not usually one to be a dickhead but he deserved it, and i chuckled everytime he put that phone up to his face.

I've become so sick of noone taking anything seriously that it is making me actually avoid a lot of people I know. I feel like they waste my time.

The worst is when they say something like "Take it easy, just have fun."

I'm fucking trying to have fun so stop dicking around and take this shit seriously. Or at least, if you're not going to be serious, don't involve me.

I think this can be a valid point as long as long as everyone understands not to take things personally (I think that's more what we mean with "seriously").

Just the other day I was talking with some friends about how it's sooo much better to take the little things in life seriously (even if in a joking manner) and not to let the big things get to you too much. But in that, I'm talking about stuff like having ridiculous Clerks-esque conversations about why Lord of the Rings is better than Star Wars etc.

And somebody mentioned Balderdash which brings me too a point, so games AREN'T competitive in their nature. Some games are just fun and happen to have some mechanism to tell you when to stop. Then again, I'm probably the least competitive person ever.

Perhaps I should put that in context. I only play competitive or serious games. Anything else, I just don't play. So like chess, poker, pool, scrabble, or in videogames, super smash bros 64 (no items, lol), starcraft 2, a couple others. Also, I don't usually have a lot of free time. If I take the time to hang out with people, it means I changed my schedule to accommodate them. So then, if they are just dicking around, it's wasting my time. I don't get pissed at anyone directly, but if they're wasting my time, I will just stop playing and go do something productive.

Or, for example, the second to last band I was in. The drummer, bassist, and vocalist, were always dicking around. I was willing to drive an hour each way every practice to go work on music, and then we wouldn't get anything done, because they wouldn't focus on being productive. It's a waste of my time and effort. But they just wanted to "have fun". Assholes.

Yeah, I'm just being super general. Context makes a considerable difference. I think this issue is disrupting a game to argue semantics of rules based on a subjective interpretation and people getting butthurt over competition. There's nothing wrong with being competitive, but if you're not a good sport, you should rethink some things.

It's always good to understand that some people take certain things more seriously than others. Whoever mentioned their friend the Uno player, that made me laugh out loud. However, I realize this person really exists and I'd respect that they really like this game. I probably wouldn't play with them, or if I did I would try to pick their brain to understand the intricacies (if such things exist) of the game out of mere curiosity. Personally, I'm highly interested in animated sitcoms/films and get mildly offended when people throw the word "cartoon" around like it's synonymous to all animation (the implication being all animation is absurd, formulaic entertainment for children), but I know not to be a dick about it. I'll explain to people that I take this kind of thing seriously and if they don't seem to give a shit I'll just change the subject. It's kind of like jfrey: if you don't want to have an in-depth, constructive conversation, I probably don't want to talk to you.

Yeah, sometimes I just LOVE games where you can win by luck alone. I find it a type of a skill too. It's just so awesomely rewarding when you win in a game you had a 2% chance of winning, just cuz you were lucky. I feel like I'm trolling possibility itself at some point

BUUUUUUUUUUUT
I'm feelin' ya about bands. I'm mostly the one that gets things to happen and it just pisses me off. Seems like people get in bands nowadays just to say "hey, I'm in a band" and to drink beer, not to play actual music.

The thing is, Joe mentioned in the OP that his friends were only butthurt and were nitpicking at the rules, not that he wasn't following them.
Playing by the rules is great, but what fucks most people up is that you can actually still be creative within this frame. And playing just for competition is not for me. I'm in for the social/trolling/silly factor components too. I prefer a good laugh to a victory.

Well, those of us who live on the other side of the pond need the boat to get over to the Croatian landmass.

Also, if we end up coming over, do you think we could invite this Bulgarian dude to come and hang out with us?

Yay! So tonight stupid drunk roommates decide to fight each other, I wouldn't have gotten involved if it wasn't for the girl roommate who came down to my room and asked for help. I stopped said fight in two seconds with a threat to call the cops.

Yeah I either need to seriously lighten up, or move the fuck out.

God, that sucks. i once had to kick in my roommates' bedroom door back around 1983 because they (a couple) were fighting and i heard him one of them slap the other. he had about fifty pounds on me, but when i told them to KNOCK IT OFF RIGHT NOW or ass would be kicked AND cops called, i was taken seriously.

Yeah man I'm at wits end with this shit. I'm not a I have to prove myself person, and the people I live with except the girl roommate are fucking testosterone filled fucking imbeciles. I'm so ready to just beat the living shit out of all of them just to shut them the fuck up, but in the end I still know that wont ever solve anything.

It must be something about that particular game. I have seen many instances of otherwise friendly people get seriously aggro over the rules during a game of asshole.

I gave up playing it unless I am with my friends from growing up (we all know how we play) for just that reason.
