Re: The what ever thread...
We are sound chasers, this is why we are all hear really. Sometimes it is the search for something new, sometimes it's to find that that thing in your head, sometimes it's for a easier/smaller/ way to get the sound you want and need. Along the way we seem to get into this over-GAS or trend following with certain FX.. The cool pedal is cool... it might be shiny... and then everyone is sick of it and goes on to the next thing.. so we flip or end up with a pile of pedals we don't use... as we weed out the it gets the sound I want from the mehs or the why did I get this? Hopefully you reach the end with a clear idea of what types of pedals you like and what builders stuff works with your stuff and your playing... It's interesting and fun... sort'a infuriating..
and.. whatever..

Word. When I'm writing parts, I almost like to think of myself as a human sampler rather than an instrumentalist. I think it was Tom Morello's playing that made me sort of come up with that idea. I like the idea of create a groove out of a number or rhythmically ordered sounds rather than melodies etc.

What is it with mothers and towels? Every time my parents or my girlfriend's parents visit, they give us towels. Hand towels, bath towels, monogrammed towels, kitchen towels, paper towels, etc. We have so many sets of towels we're running out of shelf space for them.

My mom treats every roll of paper towels like it's the last roll on Earth.
One at a time, all the time. If you absentmindedly rip 3 or 4 off, watch out, man.

they're a safe gift. no matter what your loved ones eat, what politics they follow, what sexuality they express, or what religion they or their SO expound, it's usually safe to assume that they wash. similarly, warm stuff always goes over well with elderly people in the winter months.

My house has a decent amount of towels but we don't spare much thought to ripping off huge bunches of paper towels.

also, towels in pastels or tasteful patterns go with just about any decorating scheme or personal sense of style. you can find offensive towels, but you have to go to a specialty shop. and they're more haimish than a card but less personal than buying you underwear, and a way of recognizing symbolically that "you guys have a home together." the symbological value of parents bringing you a "here you are in your home" gift should not be underestimated...when my ex and i moved in together in 2002, her folks bought us a dishwasher.

Re: The what ever thread...
I have a question.
So my girlfriend is starting classes in a week. Her hours at work are going from 45 down to like 30, and then in the fall will be going down to 20. Sometime next year, she'll be in classes full time and in an unpaid internship, and will probably not be bringing in any money at all.
I am getting a part time job, on top of my normal full time job, but that still won't be making me enough money for us to live, and to help her through school. I need to also ask for a raise here at my full time job. My question is, do I bring up that I need the money? That I kind of don't have a choice, and if I don't get a raise I'll have to look elsewhere?

A place of business is a place of business, and your boss isn't in charge because he's good with empathizing with people. If you are a strong employee and you really benefit your employer, bring that up. It is best to look like the bigger man in the situation. Let the idea sit in your boss's head for a bit before you mention having to leave. Save that as a wild card.

I'm conducting a job interview via Skype because a dude had a tracheotomy 2 weeks ago. This is weird.

That's my first thought. It's just an awkward time of the year to bring it up, and kind of out of the blue.
