In case you dudes haven't heard with the newest update 6.5, third party plug-in makers can now sell their own 'rack extensions.' And I think version 6 added some new effects units The Pulverizer, The Echo, and Alligator (plus 64-bit support). Version 5 update added Kong, Dr. Oct. Rex, and Neptune (or something along those lines). The 6.5 update is a pretty big deal because people have been wanting plug-ins in the rack for a very long time. Also should mention that Record is now integrated with Reason (as of version 6).

Here's some videos:

So are the rack extensions just a work around for the lack of VST support? I really don't see why it wasn't there first day though. A welcome addition I guess anyway.

In a way the rack extensions are a work around. Basically Propellerhead Software is forcing developers to adhere to some standards and use their own proprietary format. Rack Extensions are designed so that if a plugin crashes the plugin crashes and not your entire session. Also all, or most of the plugins have other inputs and outputs on the back of the rack (for CV routing etc.). And other features are that if you undo an action (like a parameter change) it will undo the change in the actual rack extension (other programs didn't have that same functionality). Then even another nice thing is all the purchased plugins are tied to each users account so if I have Reason on both my laptop and my desktop I can use them on both computers. Installation is pretty straight forward and you can try them all for a 30 day trial period. Yeah, that's about it, lol.

Using 4.0 would love to get 6.5 but I'm poor and ethical :P

At least you're ethical. :) With the new versions of Reason you have to use a dongle or internet verification so cracked copies are pretty much non-exsistent!

Yar, just updated. It was horrible. I had to goi nto the fucking Terminal programmer thing to get my goddamn ignition key to work again. Pretty much ruined a whole day tryign to launch reason 6.5.

but now it works. Pretty excited for some of those REs. Polar looks awesome. I'm getting close to using reason as a live effect
