back when i lived in Chicago and was part of a wider community of players i used to specialize in this kind of thing...somebody would call me up and say "you want a night in two weeks?", i'd say "sure!" and start calling people. in three or four hours i'd have a group rounded up with bass/drums/second lead instrument/me/maybe a rhythm instrument, do two or three rehearsals, and then go. as long as i had a good drummer i was golden. Our Motto: "When In Doubt, Jam On One Chord."

Surfguitar101 is an interesting forum because while they are one of the very few sources of info on my absolute favorite line of guitars, they also fall for shit like anodized pickguards sucking tone.
