i mean, we can quibble about the terms of discussion all night, but it won't make either of us righter or wronger, and it won't make me like Henry any more. now, if you came up with a mind-blowing clip, that'd be different, but just doing "yes he is/no he isn't" won't get us anywhere.

Re: Musicians that piss you off
I got one that might ruffle some feathers.
Roger Waters.
Dude, stop singing. And playing. You can't do either. You're one of the worst singers I've ever heard, and your bass playing is rudimentary at best. It was better when Dave played all of your parts for you, and then they ran you way down in the live mix.
The man can write lyrics, I'll give him that. That's all he should be doing. It's no coincidence that all of the shit that Roger wrote with Dave is good, and all of the things that are just Roger are terrible (like the Roger songs on Piper and Saucerful, like half of the Wall, basically all of the Final Cut, and all of Roger's solo feces flinging experiments).
And he has such an astronomically huge ego, and is such an incredibly impossible cunt to work with (he's the reason why there hasn't been a Floyd reunion except for Live8, because Dave just can't take dealing with Roger for longer than a couple hours) just makes me hate his fucking guts, but it's even worse that he was half of one of the best couple songwriting teams of the last 50 years, and he threw it all in the dumpster because he's such a fucking egocentric douchebag.
EDIT: Also, I just want to add that my hatred of Roger just makes the story of why Roy Harper sang "Have a Cigar" one of my favorites. For those that haven't read Nick Mason's book, here's the story:
Roger wrote the lyrics to have a Cigar, originally intending Dave to sing them. Dave read the lyrics and basically said, "I'm not going to sing this whiny self-pitying rubbish." So then Roger assumed that they would have HIM sing it, which no one other than Roger wanted to hear. But Roger didn't want to just say that he'd sing it, he wanted Dave, Nick and Rick to ASK him to sing it, cause he's a douchebag. So instead, he suggests having their buddy Roy Harper sing it, assuming that they're all going to say "No, no, no Roger, let's not have an outside guy do it, you just sing it." Except that everyone else in the group were so damn relieved that Roger suggested having someone else sing it, that they said it was a great idea, and Roger was fucking PISSED about that for years.

Re: Musicians that piss you off
I don't know if I'm alone here or not, but I can't fucking stand Steve Vai or Joe Satriani. In general 'shredders' just piss me off.
While I commend musicians who understand and use music theory in their works, these guys take it and make it into forgettable noise. Not even cool noise. Just a bunch of notes strung together. It isn't music, it is just technique. There's a place for that in music, but it shouldn't be the entire focus.
The attitude those guys have is obnoxious as well. Even if it is a bit of a joke, they take themselves seriously as guitarists. I hate reading any guitar magazine because there is almost always something with one of those two in it. They may know their way around the fretboard, but so what? It can sound impressive as fuck, but most people wouldn't ever want to listen to it. They get all of this recognition as the living greats, and it pisses me off that they get this glory when there are literally hundreds of more impressive and innovative musicians out there.

They may be nice dudes but having seen this video, these guys are prime candidates for hatred due to obvious crimes against music. Seriously, if you're brave enough, check out the rest of their stuff on yootoob. Bleugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Catching up,
1. James Blunt

*shudders*
2. Roger Waters
Roger was king asshat, but there is something awesome about his horrible singing. And his bass playing was simple but perfect. That's what set Floyd apart from the other progressive rock acts of the early/mid 70's, all of the pretense without smacking you in the face with virtuosity.
And how is Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk not an awesome song?

Side note: I've heard a different story regarding Have a Cigar that they had recorded Shine On You Crazy Diamond the day before so all the band members' voices were shot. I'm sure it was a combination of all those factors and various stories have been thrown around over the years.
3. Dirty Loops
What teh fuck?
Like scene-smooth jazz? I had to watch like four or five of those vids before I realized the bassist is a dude. Why the hell did I do that? Just what??? How did those three guys meet? It's like a hippy, an emo kid and a Keane wannabe, but they all realized they love to play smooth jazz covers of pop songs? So strange. More confusing than anything. I mean, they're good at what they do, I'm just not sure why anyone would want to do it.

Fair enough about his singing, it's like nails on the chalkboard to me. It's like listening to my tone deaf aunt singing along to her meatloaf tape in the car. And I've read several times that a lot of "his" bass playing on the albums were Dave playing his bass tracks for him. If you listen to their live bootlegs, the bass is either very far down in the mix, or has a LOT of flubbed notes.
As for the Have a Cigar story, I'm just going off of what Nick said in his bio. And I think Dave at some point confirmed the part that no one really wanted Roger to sing it.

That Dirty Loops shit sounds like something you'd hear in a department store. I don't care for Vai or Satriani, but watching Vai music videos is always good for a laugh. You can just picture 3 huge fans off camera billowing that feathered hair while he makes ridiculous faces.
Ill just throw another group of musicians that piss me off: any that have a reality show.

im disappointed at the lack of Mars Volta hate.
if y'all really have a beef against unwarranted self importance and education not showing itself in music, look at Omar and company.
glorified Santana jr. in the same vein of Mayer being Clapton jr.

IIRC there's also another part to the Roy Harper "Have A Cigar" vignette, which is that Gilmour was a friend/fan of RH and wanted to get him some visibility by getting him on a PF record. Roy was something of a cult figure among the 70s UK rock cognoscenti, with Jimmy Page sessioning on his albums among others. his Stormcock and HQ albums will fuck you right up.

Ahahaha I forgot about this! It's so awesome. Not to mention that the songs could actually pass for Syd Barrett tracks.
But the phrase "Nasty prisms good sir" has certainly reentered my vocabulary. Thanks for that.
And am I the only one who finds Vai tolerable? I mean the guy worked with Zappa, and his tone is like 100x better than Satriani's (don't particularly like Vai, just hate Satch's sound soooooo much).

I would say Winger but Kip's hair in those videos is just so fantastic. Majestic, even.
