a guy who really likes king crimson and frank zappa.
fyi his clean toan is identical to 80's Zappa + some 70's Zappa clean toans + Belewtoans and i think y'all just too stuck in a certain tonal aesthetic
can't argue there...I like my cleans trebbly and all twinkly like. plus, I never liked 80s zappa, save for shut up n play yer guitar and I only liked Belew with talking heads
from the limited exposure I've had to this guy, for me it seems there's something genius lurking beneath the surface but his execution is awful imo.
Were The Shaggs wacky and alternative or wacky and shit? I can only listen in doses either way. Three minutes to get on the roof and shovel as much debris off as possible. I don't hate them but by now I've probably exceeded the safe lifetime exposure amount.

dude this is not about tonal aesthetic. I have absolutely no problem with any of these (except i grit my teeth with Belew going all chorus all the time) and yes, it's similar to them... it's not about the tonality, it's about the music he makes for me and his.... artistic taste or whatever you want to call it

so basically "he's not my taste" because bullshit abstracts aren't exactly salient criticisms.
the thing with Kaiser is that every video I've seen of him, I can't tell if it's a joke. Every video seems like someone dubbed over a video of him while they slapped their dick on the fretboard. In reality, that's probably more musical. I just can't believe the fucker has fans. I checked TGP to see what they had to say about him, and the retards were all "HK IS A MILLION TIMES THE MUSICIAN ANY OF US WILL EVER BE". typical.
On a TGP note, I feel like most of the TGP idols are hated on ILF.

Seriously, these vids are really well done...for intentionally being shitty for the sake of being shitty, they're good.

Aren't you being just a tad argumentative? So there are people on here who don't like Henry Kaiser, for whatever reason. Who cares? I wouldn't get all hostile if someone posted about what a worthless doucher Tony Iommi was, whether I felt their reasoning was flawed or not. This thread, and all posts herein, are value based, i.e. opinions. And the OP/postees are entitled to think and feel as they so choose, without having to be subject to ridicule. See rule #1

if you want to take it that way
the best way i can put it is that in his music as i'm familiar with it, Kaiser projects the same kind of massive and unjustified self-regard he does in his interviews, clips, and other media and in the anecdotes i've heard over his three decades in the business. he's got this air that he's presenting Great Art, but to me he's just bullshitting. i know he's done ethnomusicology and theory and shit, but when i hear him play 85% of the time he sounds like he's just diddly-fucking around, and i don't respect that. i've been listening to outside music since 1970, and i like to think that i know the difference. of course, that's Just My Opinion. if you like it, you're not WRONG. we're just talkin' 'bout musicians that piss us off. give me a break... i didn't even bring him up.

i love the Beach Boys, but there are aspects of the Beach Boys (cough)Mike Love(cough) that irritate the crap out of me. if Mike hadn't finally seemed to garner a bit of humility and maturity in the last year or two, he'd be right up in my piss-you-offs. God, what a jerk HE'S been.

just for this particular reason. "not having humanity" is a criticism that essentially amounts to nothing whenever i hear it.
more "projects unpleasant self-regard" and "comes across as cold, unfeeling, detached to a degree i find weird" than "lacks soul." though if i wanted to be a bitch i'd use the phrase i often use dismissively: "he likes himself, doesn't he?"
