Hi Jean!

They're not Bees but I like Bee basses too! They are JP Basses. JP (the builder) does not build anymore and has moved on to other things, but he did build some interesting pieces over roughly 10 years; mostly 5 to 12 string instruments with a few 4 stringers here and there.
nice! they are some beauties. i.... would get lost. i've played around (read - made sloppy out of key noises) with Jean's beautiiful monstrosities a few times, and as daunting as 3,000 fretted options are, the scope of what y'all are working with is amazing.

yep. Brass nuts have gone up a lot, local luthiers do nowadays the nuts from graphic. Sounds way worse than it actually sounds and seems to work IMHO.
Has anybody experienced with ebony?

Right, I was pretty sure somebody here had done that - I take it's rather bright sounding? I think I want to pimp my Gretsch cheap ass bass-vi baritone in future and try to come up with something novel. Otherwise I'll go with the graphic my 12-stringer got.

Nope it's dark. I used it because it was a off cut from the fingerboard and it was well.. there.. I did some interesting tests a while back on the Thang and at one point I had made a ebony bridge [like a gibson guitar bridge] and it was amaze how dark it was to a normal steel fender bridge. If you want bright you want metal, aluminum nuts like what dano uses are really bright even compared to a brass one. Personally I like graphite.. I have a tusq one on my V5 and I think it is press good.
