Backyard / Lawn Games

Post by CBA »

Yo yo yo.

Hot-ass weather is upon us, so it is once again time to RELEASE THE GAMES!

Whatchoo guys into? I'm always looking for new fun shit to play. Usually I only get to do it when I visit my parents' farm, but my friends just cleaned up their backyard, and it's ripe for grillin' and drinkin' and firin' and GAMES.

I like ye old Bean Bag Toss... Cornhole I guess it's officially called, and Ladderball is surprisingly fun. Horseshoes is great, but I don't know if we have the space for that.

My friends and I used to have a Radball League of our own creation. Each contestant would get their own Koosh ball, and it was basically a big game of dodgeball, except you were free to move about anywhere you wanted, usually around a house or on a playground. You get three hitpoints, and can only use YOUR designated Koosh. If you catch an opponent's Koosh, they lose a point. JUST CAN'T FIND KOOSHES ANYMORE.

Croquet is an excellent suggestion. Never even occurred to me.

Jarts is a fun one, but I don't know if you can even buy those things anymore for exactly the reasons in that picture.

My friends and I thought about learning how to play cricket and then doing it in the park next door, and REALLY taking it seriously.

Dude, Sardines and Cops and Robbers.

Sardines is reverse hide and seek, where one person hides, then when the next person finds them, they hide in that spot, so on and so forth, and whoever finds them last loses. People end up in ridiculous places, and it's fantastic in the dark. Best with about 8-10 people.

Cops and robbers, on the other hand, is better the more people you add. Requires entire neighborhoods. Break into teams, cops are in cars, robbers on foot. Define a start and end point. Robbers must get to end point without being caught. If they're caught by the patrolling cops, they become cops as well. Requires darkness. Expect hours of ridiculousness.

I'd rather stay indoors and crochet.

Also, archery. I'm gonna be pulling the trigger on a long bow and some arrows. Also, bails of hay and some targets. Huge Robin Hood nerd as a child.

Bocce ball. Kind of like curling, but with no ice.

You can play it with croquet balls.

Lots of fun.

This appears to be a decent write-up.

Throwing knives. I wouldn't have suggested it, but if archery is game it's not so different. Or if you don't have any, and don't want to buy any you can make throwing spikes out of old wire clothes hangers. I haven't tested them past twenty or so feet, but they're pinpoint accurate at that distance, the light weight doesn't mess up the throws. Each hanger can make 2.
