I agree and see where CBA is coming from. There are many different roads to the same place. Some can take mushrooms and experience the truth that we are all one. Some can read Alfonzo Lingus' book "The Community of Those Who Have Nothing In Common." Or you can have a life altering experience through tragedy or retreat to nature. And when a guy like me who maybe smokes marijuana every two months max gets asked what drug I was smoking when I played or wrote a song, it strikes a nerve. It implies that I could not come up with that song on my own. It assumes that a person needs to rely on a substance in order to write good music. You can write good music under any influence. I think drugs are irrelevant unless the intention was "to write this song while we're on drugs," or the song was about drugs.
Better time could be spent inquiring the meaning or theory behind the song IMO.

Most of these same musicians/laymen have never done anything worth a shit themselves.

I still laugh when people don't believe me when I tell them Zappa didn't use drugs.
i gots no problem with his ideas, i can TOTALLY see the question coming off as "without the drugs you are NOTHING".... all that.
just.... sounded like he was being an insult lobbing douche palace towards somebody that... i like. a looooooot. so, if THAT'S what was going on, bowl of dicks, spoon. all that.

Usually, a good musician is good with or without drugs (*see vid, allegedly Santana was so high on peyote he thought his guitar was actually a giant snake that he was playing). I'm sure Andrew Bird is on of those. I just think he looks like a stoner.
However, I think we can all agree that high Clapton is infinitely better than sober Clapton.
Incidental point, a lot of musicians do do drugs.

"Feeble-minded musicians"... sure, I meant Eric! But I only know Eric! from his time on ILF, and thus I was lead toward an opinion of feeble-mindedness. That said, I have and want no enemies here on our humble forum. YES! to M!CH!GAN!
As far as "laymen", I am not speaking AT ALL about musicians whom are not "professional". I was speaking "laymen" in terms of those that experience the music that aren't musicians. Perhaps I should not have used a "/", but an "or".
Most of the music that I listen to comes from people that were/are fucked up on drugs. However... no shitty artist/musician has ever taken drugs and then written a brilliant song. Ever.
Thus, I would go so far as to say that whether or not a musician/artist takes drugs is irrelevant unless it is seriously threatening their health, in which case let us not lose any more truly talented artists.

he just asked a fucking question. he wasn't going all "FUCK ANDREW BIRD THAT NUKKA ISN'T STRAIGHT EDGE LIKE ME"
so, idk, i mean, you can go eat a 5 gallon bucket filled with old dicks because I only know you from your time at ILF, and it seems like you should go eat a 5 gallon bucket filled with old dicks
