Is there something like the boss auto wah (tw-1)?

Post by scabiosa »

Hi fellows!

I once had the boss auto wah, or the tw-1. I liked it very much, verfy fukkin groovy pedal... but there was some volumedrop and loss in the bass when activating the pedal. And in bypass it was sometimes fucking with my signal...
EDIT: I liked it at the 'drive down'-setting, that is some kind of a reverse envelope... but what other envelope filters can do this reverse envelope?

Anyone an idea if there is a pedal with the same sounds but without these problems?

:poke:

I have those 2. I like both. The Emma has the better bypass and is bit more flexible (up and down) though.

I feel like the FX25 is kind of a one-trick pony, but does what it does very well. The two that I've owned definitely had a volume drop, though.

The best I've ever tried is the 3 Leaf Audio Proton. Such a funky filter. DOD FX25 is ok, but not nearly as versatile or sweet sounding.

the thing is that I liked it at the 'drive down'-setting, that is a kind of reverse envelope...

what other pedal can do this? I don't think a doctorQ or bassballs or something like the typical envelope filters can do this feature?
or am I wrong?

A lot of the pedals in dev's list can do "drive down;" I know the 3leaf stuff, the IBS, Mutron, discomboblator, and more will do that. I think mostly just the EHX and DOD stuff in that last don't have it, actually.

Also, Iron Ether Xerograph should be mentioned.

Put the Subdecay Prometheus DLX or the WMD Super Fatman on your board.

MEGA.
ULTRA.
AWESOME.

owkay! indeed the prometheus and fatman look very freaky cool shit!
but expensive!

I see the digitech synth wah also has the envelope down function... anyone knows if this will do the trick as well? I've checked a soundclip but the envelopes on the digitech sounded digital and harsch (and I want them to sound DEEEEEEEEP and warm...)
maybe the bass synth would be better? (on guitar)

other budget envelope down pedals?
or just a little cheaper than the prometheus and fatman? (they are both over 200 € and the crisis is hitting me boys)

I was avoiding mentioning it because it sounds like OP is looking more for a traditional funky filter, but the Xerograph Deluxe is the craziest, best filter around. Super versatile, it can get pretty close to the mutron-style sounds (but not quite there, it is a bit less 'organic') and also does so much more.

And I don't know much about the bass synth wah, I tried one once and I mainly remember it doing ok synthy sounds, but not sounding amazing.

Yep, Xero is definitely a good candidate for being WAY less cash than the Prom or WMD.

I'll second the Emma, as it's the only one I have any experience with.
Sounds rad, pretty versatile, has envelope down.
Also, I hear tale there's one in your friendly neighborhood ILF b/s/t. :duck:

Moog doesn't do a reverse sweep, though, right? It's also super expensive, huge, and the bypass kinda sucks...

I agree on everything except they're really not super-expensive. They're cheaper than you think, especially if you buy used. You can almost always get it for under 2 bills, I got mine for 160. :idk:
