I've been told by one of my friends that what I'm looking for either doesn't exist or is so unpopular that it is impossible to find.
Wow. Your friend might be right

All of those Carpenter movies have cold, dark soundtracks.

Sigur Ròs can get pretty cold at times, but also quite warm at others.
A lot of Radiohead is frigid. Much of Kid A is cold, but I'd say the coldest point is the title track and probably Treefingers, though I don't know if it's the kind of cold you were going for.

Agalloch by any chance?
I love the feeling they give, but not sure if it's what you're looking for. It is a bit warm tho. Like, the warmth of a person running through a blizzard. It's there, but in the grand picture, it's a fraction.
