What is the darkest coldest music you can think of
This is getting bad. I listen to the most extreme thing I can find and I'm like 'well... it's kind of dark... I guess... could be colder...'

Not that this is what you're going for, exactly, but the first thing that leapt into my head was Oxbow's An Evil Heat.
Problem is, that's a very "hot" album. Dark, sure, but not cold at all. Any way you could throw down some reference points?

Darkest coldest. To me, that sounds like Autechre, probably Amber. Unless you're excluding electronic music.

If you're going for dark and cold emotions....check out The Antlers - Hospice. That whole album is gut wrenching.

Wrath of the Weak - Solace
Byla + Jarboe - Vicera
Gnaw Their Tongues - L'Arrivee De La Terne Mort Triomphante
Portal - Swarth
Impetuous Ritual - Relentless Execution Of Ceremonial Excrescence
Leviathan - True Traitor, True Whore
Trying to think of some more Black Metal-ish stuff but for some reason my mind is blanking.
Basically what I'm looking for, is a scale of darkness, coldness, and chaos, that from 1 to 10 puts everything above at a 0.

The trick to extreme qualities in music is to find music that is the exact opposite genre of what you'd expect. You want dark and cold, most people think metal when you really should be listening to Bright Eyes or The Cure (specifically Disintegration).

Maybe sometimes, but I have a very specific idea of what I'm looking to hear. I just can't find anything that matches it.
We have very different ideas about what is dark or cold I think. That's fine. Just not what I'm looking for. To me both of those groups sound really happy and bright.

Check out Nadja's split with Black Boned Angel.
And never commit the should-be-war crime of listening to Bright Eyes.

AHH, ok. I didn't know you were looking for metal, you didn't specify in the OP. I thought you meant amongst any genre. Sorry, can't help ya.

Re: What is the darkest coldest music you can think of
For reference. This is warm happy music. I'm looking for cold dark music.

I've been told by one of my friends that what I'm looking for either doesn't exist or is so unpopular that it is impossible to find.

That's cool. Not what I'm looking for at the moment, but I'll check it out. I like all music, just suddenly today I felt like I hit a plateau like a junkie where the extreme wasn't extreme enough anymore.

Re: What is the darkest coldest music you can think of
it's not exactly metal, but when i think of dark, cold music i think of Fripp/Cross/Wetton/Bruford period King Crimson or of Henry Cow with Dagmar Krause on vocals. or Van Der Graaf Generator. you might like VDGG.
