I dunno man...sometimes...well, most of the time a bagel is just too much bread. Maybe I've just never had a truly good bagel. Toast some chewy bread and throw some peanut butter on there son.

For me, bagels have to be toasted and have some kind of seed on the outside. Otherwise the texture is off and you can get into that "too much bread" territory way too easily.
Also, garlic spreads. Garlic spreads are fantastic.
asiago bagel, tiny bit of cream cheese, some spicy mustard, slice of Yves tofurkey sandwich "meat", avocado, thin slices of cucumbers, tiny bead of sprouts.
fucking. DELICIOUS.
although best bagels i've had are from small bakeries in NYC. HURTS not being able to get that style out here.
