This is once again proving that it doesn't matter AT ALL what you play through. Dubkitty makes a great point... you play whatever is easy to get/use, is rugged, and can get you what you need without a lot of fuss.

We just happen to be very particular... and it's mostly to a fault.

I dare me to throw everything away and just use my RAT. I could do it.

i spent years playing through nothing but a Distortion+ and Fender amplifier trem and reverb, and it sounded totally bomb-ass. i do enjoy having the variety of stuff i have now, because it allows me to have such a variety of voices at the tap of a switch. but if i was on the road and my board case got lost or stolen, i'd be fucked because almost half of the stuff on there is out of production. i would only be able to replace half of my fuzz, and even that would have to be overnighted from somewhere like Prymaxe or PGS. it's the price i pay for having fussy ears.

This. A thousand times this.

I'm really jealous of people who can be perfectly happy with the cheapes/shittiest gear. A friend of mine asked what to start with I told him to find the cheapest pedals he could find because he wouldn't be bugged by the sound quality... yet

Soooo you dig this guy's music, but now you're all disappointed when you find out he uses non gear-wanky gear?
How does that even make sense? :idk:

I have to admit that a BOSS ME-30 served me well for 14-15 years and around 150+ shows.

I do miss the simplicity. Through a mic'd amp and a PA, no-one can tell.

I'd never go back though ;)

Guys in Oceansize used "mediocre" pedals as well and they're one of my favourite bands ever :idk: btw - for example Boss OS-2, which is not bad, actually!

a lot of pros make great music that sounds great without boutique stuff, i personally don't care even though i enjoy boutique stuff more than off the shelf effects (for the features mainly)

shouldn't it be *more* impressive that this person is able to make sounds you enjoy with common, off-the-shelf gear?

I think it does for sure. Shows how much goes into the musicianship.

It was pretty humbling to find out Jonsi's (from Sigur Ros) pedalboard is basically; Ernie Ball Volume > Ibanez TS9 tubescreamer > TC electronics parametric EQ + Sustain > Boss RC20 loop station.

The rest is some rack-mounted reverb (and a Boss RV-something), plus his cello bow / ebow.

and have a nice life doesn't even use pedals, all logic and garageband defaults. deathconsciousness is still like the illesttt. i understand your disappointment though. it's kind of hard/shitty to understand that not everyone who uses pedals to make sikkk music is a pedal geek.

most of you know how I am though, I still love the hell out of the band...I just think all bands could benefit from a wolf computer, RRR and disaster transport, ya know?

I definitely get this, like having more unique effects to open up an artists sonic pallet, especially a band that's using these kind of effects from Boss or something.
