After a nearly 10-year hiatus, I decided on a whim to get back into Magic: The Gathering, and was wondering if I have any company here in that regard? Anybody?
yea..I had a black/green deck of some sort, once upon a time, but I just finished building a white/blue deck using the "Flyover" starter pack from WorldWake as a basis. Hoping to get into a few matches at the local comic/hobby place soon.
It depends. Some tournaments are specifically set up for "legacy" (old) sets, whereas others are "standard" (newest) or "extended" (newest + next newest, I think) But if you're just playing casually between friends, I think you can pretty much play whatever you want.
Of course, I'm still fairly new to the game as it stands now...I think there are actually alot of other formats in addition to the ones I named. (and I'm not sure I described those correctly anyway)
I had a couple friends who played in high school, so I would occasionally play against them with their own decks. One time I went with them to one of those booster draft things at a card shop and got absolutely destroyed by this 10 year old girl. Apparently she was the owner's daughter, but still. Never lived it down.
I just sold off my collection, about $1,000 worth of the rares I had left (sold my Vintage/Type 1 stuff off when I left for college) Prices for Legacy/1.5 skyrocketed the past 2 years and I couldn't keep up. I have 2 Scrub legacy combo decks left and thats it. I couldn't stand the amount of money it took to be relevant in the standard/type 2 arena of play, and none of the current sets gripped me.
My tourney play Enchantress Legacy deck was awesome though, I know eventually I will miss it, but I'm looking at the '68 Fender Bassman it bought me and have no regrets.
My favorite deck I ever had was my Vintage Mishra's Workshop deck, but at $300 a pop for a workshop I hate myself for spending all my graduation money on it, God was I a moron.
I play. I like Pauper and casually. I won a local tourney many years ago, and used to have a load of money cards back then. One of my fave decks is a mono blue Affinity. I also have Goblins, Naya Lightsaber variant, mono green tokens, green/blue madness, and a few other neat combo decks. Best shit I ever built was a green/blue infinite life-gain/infinitely pumpable dryad deck.
I played for a while while I had disposable income. But when the choice is card games or smokeables, that's not much of a choice.
I want a giant bunny and I want a bunch of regular bunnies and they will form a hive mind and the giant bunny will be the queen bunny and they will attack in swarms.
I sued to play in middle school and early highschool. It was before I got into playing music so I spent all my money on it... I've got 4,000 Magic cards sitting in my room now. I had a mean Elf deck, a killer Sliver deck, and a nasty Rat deck.
When I was 12 I worked at a bakery and I used to steal black and white cookies and trade them to the owner of the comic book shop next-door for packs of Magic cards.
Unfortunately I sold off my collection when I was in high school. I have felt like playing recently, but I don't feel like buying the cards.
