Strat Project
so i'm throwing together a strat and plan on outfitting it with a single neck pickup.
i have metallic pink schecter from the 80's with a scalloped rosewood neck...i'll be using a single layer black guard.
so i'm thinking what pickup to use.
here's what i have for pickup choices laying around.
P90 style
old dimarzio X2N (that's pink as well)
several diff hummy choices (pearly gates, alnico V, super distorion, several diff custom wound dimarzio's)
single strat
tele bridge
tele neck (chrome bar)
bartolini jazz hummy
barolini dual blade weirdo thingie
filtertron
bill lawrence single coils (2 diff versions...forgot what model #'s they are)
cheap ceramic single coil from old japanese guitars.
what do you crazy fuks think?

Re: Strat Project
Rig up some kinda clamp-like thing so you can have another pickup hanging above the strings in front of/behind the nut.
Then you can run the wires through a tube or something.
I dunno

Didn't Zappa do that? Or he had one embedded in the neck or something?

yea..he used a barcus berry transducer under the nut/behind the nut with a blend on the hendrix strat at one time. it seems like i remember him saying he'd experimented with them installed at various places like the nut, 12th and 22nd on another guitar. i'm going by memory so it might have been a dream.
here's the pinko rhythm strat with scalloped neck:

Re: Strat Project
thanks my man!
yea...it's very 80's. i'm busting out some flock of seagulls as we spaek!
it was a custom schecter from 86. the person it was made for didn't like, gave it to me. i liked the pink body but it has that fukking weird trem on it so i just left it in the case since then. i dug it out hoping to get rid of it but i doubt anyone would want it so BAM presto change-o = silly guitar.
i just used what was laying around and didn't want to spend much time on it. i don't like scalloped necks (although this is a nice one)...now the guitar will go back into the guitar closet prolly never to be seen again. lol
it plays great but ... not really my thing.
i'll plug it in today and see if it has anything special...i'm curious about that bartolini pickup, i can't remember ever using it.
i might ebay it for shits and giggles.

Re: Strat Project
it's...adorable.
BTW you're right about Zappa and the multiple BBs in the Strat neck...he talked about it in the Guitar Player interview c.1977 where he talked about rebuilding the Hendrix Strat.
