I think the best way to answer that is to find out what's popular, and just assume they hate that.

And if one of my friends is anything to go by, large side burns, V necks, and PBR.

I don't have sideburns but I do love pbr and am wearing a v-neck sweater. I totally am a hipster; its fun.

Sideburns? :wha?: That can't be right... they look good on almost ANYBODY (except for very skinny girls and some others) so that can't be a hipsters choice.

I doubt that you're a hipster. I think that you're like me, an art kid with likes that parallel hipsterisms. Hipsters are essentially posers of the art and music community. They don't care about the content of what they do/wear, they just care that you care.

That said, wear did you find a v-neck sweater? All I have are Jeff Mangum-esque oversized ones.

Hm. Maybe I am a hipster. I found that dress up game, realized I own about half of the shit in it, and then made what I'm going to be wearing to a show tonight, more or less.
