ugh.

The whole you camouflaging as other people is really throwing me off, I knew it said TroySanders but i still got upset that Tom would say that!

Anyways, I think the diminished runs video is swell, I sure as hell can't do that stuff.

I also think the video is a snapshot of the entire picture, I know a lot of kids from school who were/are in the same situation. Some parents piss me off so bad, I am so lucky to have the parents I have, we never argue we have great communication, and they even drove 14 hours just to see my band play last week. It definitely seems like a "I blame you for your father leaving me" type situation, and he reacts perfectly by just tuning it out. I just hope he has an outlet for all the shit. He very well could act out, but parental behavior like that will only cause it to increase.

I can definitely relate to this dude. When I go my mom's house during breaks from school, I usually can't/don't/am told I can't play guitar even through my practice amp because my stepfather thinks it's annoying. It's resulted in me having to schedule when everyone is going to be out so I can actually play. My mom is totally fine with my music and supports it, but my Stepfather has never once said anything positive about my music.

At school, thankfully, for the past 4 years I've had 4 very chill roommates who haven't cared about me playing music in our living room. I've got a roommate this semester who hates my music, but he's a medical student so he hasn't been around a whole lot.

see, here's the deal: it's not a parent's job to kiss their kids' ass.

Yeah, it is lame, dubkitty.

Doesn't matter who paid for 'em. It's sorta besides the point. As I've said, we're not getting the full story here. Maybe his parents had a good reason to lock away his guitars, maybe not. We'll probably never know.

I never said that parents need to kiss their kid's asses, but that's a pretty drastic punishment to inflict upon a teenager (or on anybody for that matter). "I gave 'em to you, I can take 'em away" is almost always lame. I know parents and teenagers often have a hard time communicating, but I would like to think some other form of punishment would've been better suited to the situation. Again, I really don't know what brought us to this point. So, I can't really say.

I do agree that the size of that amp is inappropriate for bedroom use and that may be a large part of the problem. IDK?

Pretty shitty situation. I have a friend who was in that situation when we were in highschool.

As far as the amp thing goes, maybe he can only afford to have one amp and he has that big stack because he plays shows? Someone said he does but I don't know, and that would make sense to me.

It's not a parents job to kiss their kids ass but it is there job to prepare them for the world. How they do that is up to them, but insult and slander surely isn't the right way to do it...

i guess i see the situation differently than many of you. for one thing, i'm far enough removed from adolescence that i don't automatically sympathize with the kid in a kid/parent conflict any more, because i've seen with perspective that teens are usually stupid and blind. when i look at the video in question and its associated links, i see a teen who appears to spend all his free time shredding and making little instructional videos despite the fact that he's not particularly exceptional and has nothing to say on the instrument at all and seems to get off enough on irritating his mother that he posts a video of her going off on him on YouTube, and a parent who's sick to death of being blasted by said shred-noodling day and night and thinks their son would do better to get out of the house and interact with some real humans, and maybe stop irritating her all the time just for fun. like i said upstream, if that guy was my roommate, i'd tell him to shut up. why should she have to put up with it just because she birthed him? i don't see him as being much different than my drunk ex-roommate sitting up at 2AM singing along off-key with stuff on his headphones. i don't care what it means to you, just fucking STOP.

I agree with that Sir... He didn't miss a beat when his Mom left the room and picked up exactly where he was when she came in... That just shows a lack of respect for his Mom... She coulda taken the guitars out back and shot them up...

:idk: To each his own. I'm not particularly a fan of the shred stuff anymore, but usually teenage guitarists go through that phase, before moving on to develop their own style and voice as they discover music. Being able to play fast is a part of understanding the instrument, at least at one point.
It's hard to have anything to say while playing at that young of an age (unless you're Conner Oburst of something), you usually have to experience a bit more of life to draw on.

I'm not saying your off base, just that it seems pretty normal to me. It's probably a somewhat decent chance that he's provoking his mom, but I've been in situations before where I can't play at any time, because my parents lost their minds over the noise. It's a good part of why I moved out.

Personally, I wouldn't give a shit about my roommates making noise. It's happened in the past with small parties in my living room.

@Sonidero: That lack of respect is usually built over time. Before I moved out, I was at that point with my mom, from years of being treated as a second class citizen with my opinions on my own life. It's a 2 way relationship, and that point is usually something that's reached mutually.

I mean, for what it's worth, she essentially did. She locked them up in a storage unit, and thus now he only has an acoustic.

What sucks is that he has a band, and (though some may not dig it) it's not too bad for what it is, and now he sure can't play in that band.

when kids don't behave, they have their toys taken away, and they don't get to go out and play.
