Just got a book I've been looking for for years (and every time I found it, it was $500+).
Would put most normal people to sleep, but I like this stuff (and yes, the author's name is Raper).

"This authoritative work on the largest and most studied group of cellular slime molds describes the dictyostelids..."

I can hear the snores already ...

But it's the definitive (although horrendously out of date) book on the biology of a really cool wee beast I mapped and sequenced (as part of a crew of about 60 people).
It's a weird thing -- acts like a single celled amoeba, unless it's hungry, in which case it does this ...

It's an awesome wee beastie.

Finished Born to Run the other day. Read Zen in the Art of Archery this morning. Now I'm reading the Hunger Games. It's ok so far, but it's not like great. I don't know what all the hype is about.

The Universe in a Nutshell by Larry Flynt and a book called Fortress that I bought from the author at WonderCon last week. I'm really enjoying both.

http://www.mkfortress.com/ <-- link to Fortress book because at 1/3rd of the way through I think that more people should know about this one.

Zen & Archery is a great book. Still haven't read the motorcycle one, I'm afraid.

Hunger Games trilogy is good. it starts a little slow, and the first book is a bit reminiscent of Battle Royale, but i got attached to a lot of the characters really quick. and the second boom the first quarter is kinda boring, but from there until the end of the third book is a fun read.

it's not an amazing, genre changing IMPORTANT series of books, but i had a lot of fun reading them and i teared up a few places.

also, the movie's good. main grrL is AWESOME.

I saw something that said she (the actress) looked too healthy to be realistic.

They included a picture. Her boobs are awesome.

lulz. she IS pretty. yeah, they could have dirtied up some stuff a bit, the blood and showing the violence was more tame than i'd prefer, but she killed the role. a lot of what's conveyed in the first person narrative comes across just from her facial expressions when she's silent. she's GOOD.

Hitchens was I think the best speaker I have ever listened to. I have watched and listened to at least a dozen hours of debates, speeches, etc - possibly much more than that in fact.

CBA wrote:Milkfat mentioned "The Revolution Of Everyday Life"... always wanted to read that. Have you read "Lipstick Traces"? That's where I learned the most about the Situationists and Lettrists and dada. Incidentally my favourite Shiner song is "The Situationist".

No haven't read a hell of a lot in this vein, though Society of the Spectacle and Revolution of Everyday Life are definitely making me want to read more. Hmm Lipstick Traces looks really good. Will have to find that somewheres...
