reading Hunger Games. it was about the same price to buy the entire trilogy as one download than to buy just the first book, so i did. it's mostly good. i've been strange about reading or gaming lately. lots of intense 2 or 3 day spurts then disinterest for a week or so.

i read the first book in about 4 hours first night i downloaded it. liked it, but the silly romance that feels like it's written for tweeners is kinda annoying. just picked them up and read half the second book. dig it so far.

I sorta gave up halfway through. Life came in the way and when I tried picking it up again a month or so later I could not find the story. I did like it, but it was a little hard to read. Especially since I switched from the horrible german translatio to the english original after 50 pages or so. I did get halfway through.

Infinite Jest is kind of starving on my nightcase as well. I don't have that kind of patience and / or time at the moment. Maybe I'll take it along for my next holidays. In September or so.

Right now all I'm "reading" is the Audiobook of Gustav Meyrinks "Der Golem" awesome classic gothic style novel. I am loving it, it's very trippy and weird.

what'd'ya not dig about it Achty? felt hokey?

Maybe. Dunno exactly. I haven't gotten halfway into it yet so I might pick it up again later.
For now though, finished At the Mountains of Madness...
It wasn't bad although if I'd had to read "aeon-dead" or "salient" one more time I would have cried.

Now I know how they could throw this on the german market so quick. They have only translated book 1 & 2 and now, almost a year later, book 3 gets sold. I think this is how it worked on the japanese market so that is basically the only explanation. THey could however have waited a little longer and published all three books in one like the americans did. At least I think they did. Shit is whack! Anyway, I am quite happy the book continues because the ending mede me so unhappy and this is the promise of a better ending. I've also read that Murakami is thinking about making this into a series, so I don't know if I should get my hopes too high.

Yeah, the US one is a big fuckin tome. I'm just about to finish book 1, but from what I've deduced, you could read "On seeing the 100% perfect girl one beautiful April morning" (probably my favorite thing he's written) to get a similar effect.

oh hell i didn't realize this was already translated into english since the last i checked.

Alas, Babylon

My mission for 2012 is to read as many post-apocalyptic novels as possible. Just reread the road a few days ago, gonna watch/read a boy and his dog next. Any suggestions?

I just restarted the Dark Tower series. Got to the beginning of book 3 and got Kinged out. I read like 8 Stephen King books in a row.

Milkfat mentioned "The Revolution Of Everyday Life"... always wanted to read that. Have you read "Lipstick Traces"? That's where I learned the most about the Situationists and Lettrists and dada. Incidentally my favourite Shiner song is "The Situationist".

And yeah, PKD is where it's at. Love Valis, love Electric Sheep, and my favourite book by him is A Scanner Darkly. Amazing. Still need to read Ubik.

Also picked up "Everybody Loves Our Town: An Oral History Of Grunge". Gonna crack 'dat.

Also reading this weird book called mr. Peanut. A pretty interesting/dark examination of marriage and wanting to murder your wife in a weird mobious strip inspired plot/timeline
