Corgan Talkin Smack, Again...

Post by sonidero »

I mean he's kinda got a point and it's funny but what a douche...

Attention SXSW showcasing artists: Billy Corgan has some fighting words. "I'm shocked by the lack of evolution in alternative rock music," he told me backstage after his Interactive panel with author Brian Solis on Monday. "Let me put it this way: I should not be here to the level that I still I am. If the music out there was that fucking great, where is someone crushing me on the numbers? They're not. Our generation crushed a lot of bands right out the fucking door. And they had to sit on the sidelines for 20 fucking years until people got nostalgic and brought that stuff back." His Smashing Pumpkins are readying the release of a new album, which Corgan says will be more of a multimedia experience. "I'm standing exactly where every artist should hope to stand," said Corgan, who remained in town to see the Yahowa 13 documentary The Source, which screens one last time Friday, 6:45pm, at the Alamo Lamar B. "The only thing left to do is be great."

Wow. Talk about being disconnected from.. every.. thing?

I enjoyed Siamese Dream,
LOVED Mellon Collie,
Didn't mind Adore,
The rest onwards.. meh. And I don't want to be that 'meh' guy. Yadda yadda bands change/grow/evolve I know, I know. But still, meh. (I've enjoyed Radiohead's constant shifting).

Billy, what happened?

And what's all this paraonoid stuff about chemtrails?

I guess if he's happy doing what he's doing, then more power to him! He's still making money (mostly from people going to his shows who want to hear Gish/Siamese/Mellon Collie-era stuff).

Limp Bizkits "chocolate starfish and the hotdog flavored water" outsold siamese dream by more than two million units in the US alone. It went double platinum in the UK where siamese dream only went gold, out selling the SP album by 600%. There you go billy. You were crushed by limp bizkit.

While that does shoot down Billy's point, it is also a little depressing.

I'm a big Wes Borland fan as a guitarist and performer, but not Limp Bizkit as a whole. That "Rollin'" riff sounded huge when I was 18. Here it is, as an instrumental :D

I think that Chocolate Starfish... is somewhat of a pinnacle of LB and it's way more entertaining than whole SP for me

and if it wasn't for Durst, i'd be way more into LB

I'm pretty sure the last time someone gave a shit about Billy Corgan was also the last time someone cared about SXSW. Or Austin.

And that someone was probably Richard Linklater.

if there hadn't been so much other brilliant music out of that city, Corgan would be enough to make me ashamed i was born in Chicago.
