This.

The thing is, if you're not already REALLY into the computer or electrical engineering, you're not going to dig it. You're already interested in the medical field, so I'd say go for it. It'll be something you'll enjoy, have a passion for, and will make a good living at. That hits all the big points, so I'd say try it.

Anyone who wants to bitch about a male nurse can suck it. Usually it's the nurses that save lives before the doctor even gets involved, so anyone who actually knows anything about medicine, or has experienced being in the ER, will know better than to criticize you for it.

one thing about nursing: people will never become obsolete, unlike IT systems or fields of engineering specialization. and wherever you go there will always be people who need care.

There is a huge demand for RNs right now, so if that's what you want to do I'd jump on it.

My schooling aspirations have to be on hold for now. My dad was diagnosed with carcinoma. We are at MD Anderson in TX. If you are the praying type, please do so for my family.

Dang, dude. Sorry to hear that. If you need anything, drop me a line. I've got family in Houston, and I can make stuff happen if need be for you.

Thank you guys so much for all the good thoughts and prayers. I'm back home for a night and then I'm going out to TX again. My dad has had it confirmed that he has Squamous Carcinoma, but luckily it's supposed to be highly treatable. So just keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks guys!

Just thought I'd give an update. I'm still in Texas for the time being. Hopefully will be going home Saturday. My dad does in fact have Squamous cell Carcinoma. It's a cancer that you usually get from smoking, except he has never smoked. The doctor said he's just unlucky. There is a bright side though. They found the tumor (located on the very back of his tongue) and they believe with chemo and radiation that it will disappear and he will be fine. The doctors at MD Anderson are very reassuring and kind. It's a blessing that we are here and not somewhere else. Thank God for small favors. He's starting chemo tomorrow. I'm really, really nervous for him. I know he can make it through it, but fuck is it nerve wracking.

So my parents are going to be staying here for 3-4 months until his treatments are done and he's better. I am still in shock from all of this really. It's been a very depressing time. ILF has been the one thing that has kind of kept me sane through this. I've been living in a dream world otherwise. Nothing seems real to me, but it's all too real. Don't know if that makes sense, but that's how it feels. I miss my wife and kids too. I've been down here for two weeks now. Sigh. I hope everything goes ok. I'll be coming back every other week to check on them. Looks like TX is going to be my new second home.
