so do you find that the degree of reduction given by the ER-20s is sufficient to keep your ears from ringing and shit?

i got a 10 dollar pair of hearos before my show, and it worked out well. it feels weird to sing with plugs in, but it cuts stuff evenly pretty decently

In my experience, yes. I've used them at concerts and day long festivals and have had no ringing whatsoever afterwards. 20 decibels is really a lot of attenuation. If you look at this chart, you'll see what I mean: http://www.dangerousdecibels.org/educat ... uidelines/

I've always made fun of earplug wearers, but I should probably invest in some decent ones.

I use the tub of like 100 or so orange ones you can get from home depot, they last me one or two practices but they're cheap and work good and if i lose them i dont care. i use them mainly when my pipe band practices.

I also got the chordy/stringy thing that connects them so you can hang em on your neck...just a few bucks more, handy to have

...yeah, almost any brand products of this sort have proven tried and true in my book. Something that just doesn't muffle my golden fuzz toanz.  The air pressure is meant to be felt, but the ear drums are not not to bleed.

I've got some custom Westones and they're awesome. I have a 9db reduction, which I think brings the volume just below where it would hurt my ears. I've been meaning to order a set of 15s as well. Getting the mold is a very strange experience, but its worth it. Not the mention my audiologist was an attractive women only a few years older than me, so thats a plus.

Yup, 15s is where it's at. I've never needed my 25s.

i'm going in next month for a hearing test and to possibly get molds done. My first idea was that the 25's is what i would need - my band is pretty loud - i clocked us at 126dB last practice....i'm thinking the 25's would be the ticket....anyone use the 25db reductions?

If your band practices for more than a minute a day, you are most definitely doing damage to your ears. I would pick up some cheapies in the mean time...

certainly - i use plugs all the time - i'm just looking for a) baseline for where my hearing loss is at and b) plugs that sound BETTER than hearo's high fidelity and reduce the dB's yet more.

Ahh, gotcha. Just of curiosity, what's your bands set up to make that much sound?

i'm playing a GT solo 75 1x12 into a traynor 2x12 extension cab and an ampeg vt40 4x10... bass player is going running a mesa 400+ into a 2x15 cab....and the drummer is a basher!

I know that in all reality, we need to come DOWN in volume - it will be better for us in so many ways, not just in the hearing department!

I don't for see ever needing 25s. I do like the 40s, though, for when I mow the lawn or working with saws or whatever.
