Well, I built the two prototypes and it's kind of a two steps forward one step back sorta situation... space issues with a few extra parts being needed, unexpected clock noise and weird clock behaviour, plus I wired the treble control I've been making since 2006 backwards. BUT I realized I can actually fit this sucker in a 1590BB, the same size box as previous versions, so I'm really happy about that.

These protos might be too delicate for travel now that I've had to hack the boards up a bit to add a couple extra things... when I get the issues with the clock sorted I'll decide if these can travel or if it'll have to be the next protos. The next round should be the production version of the boards, I think it's that close to ready. Just needs some debugging and a pcb layout adjustment to squeeze a few more caps in.

Took almost 2 days to do 2 pcbs... 170 smd resistors and caps plus 116 smd chip legs plus the sockets and jacks and transistors/regulators and through hole caps, per board... funnest weekend in a long time.

that's a crazy amount of parts.
but think it probably makes up for all the parts in the RRR & tremolesence you haven't had to solder ever again!
now posting as Forrrest.

Haha yeah, good point! Ideally I wouldn't have any human-made pcbs...any human has more important things to do... but I do love making these smd protos, it's a fun challenge. I don't mind doing the Elements and Frazzes either, there's something relaxing and enjoyable about making pcbs.

Did the Zombies work out ok? They fit no problem in the enclosure?

Hey Ryan, Before the forum problem I read in a thread that you wonder if you should keep the crazyness of the v2 for the v3.

I think you should keep that crazyness... with the mix knob those crazy sound are so usable and cool... and with the addition of the hold mode that will be super cool.

More range on the treble knob would be good for me... on my v2 I always keep the treble knob to his max setting and it's still very dark (but my amp is very dark sounding).

Can't wait the hear the invert switch!!!

+1 on the crazy stuff Ryan. If you're going to reduce the wild sounds, perhaps you could make it 50% normal/conventional sounds, then 50% crazy.

-1 on the crazy stuff, I prefer a good straight up chorus!

Well dudes, the last update was lost but I do have a proper prototype now. I figured out the problem with the clock was the low mA smd trannies, off they went, and everything else works as it should except for my backwards flub with the treble control and the rate control could be smoother.

So one more prototype! I need to focus on building pedals for a couple weeks and the layout changes will be tough so it'll probably be awhile before I get to do the next prototype but it's definitely been a round of progress with the last boards.

The v3 does have a slightly brighter wet signal but it'll never be bright and clear like a digital chorus.. there's just too much filtering required to get the clock noise and hiss out of the signal. On a v2 with the treble knob all the way up that's actually adding 15dB of treble boost, believe it or not. (Do believe it though, it's true) So that's all the boost I can really do, max treble boost already.

I think I'll keep the 3 clock ranges pretty much the same as the v2 so there'll be subtle, medium, and extreme settings. Covers all the bases!

I do like the weirdness too... I like to set it fast and wet and weird and it sounds like when death metal guys play notes real fast and scary sounding... works awesome with the hold.

Nice. :thumb:
I like my amp very dark... Probably why I keep the treble know to max all the time.

I was traveling a lot for work lately, I'm now back home for a while... let us know when you're ready with the next proto (no rush).

You're a dark amp kinda guy hey Syl? I think I'm a bright tone kinda guy. I like the warmth/darkness of the CC though, I like the warmth and hiss of the 70s.

My amp is similar to a Fender Blackface... but a lot darker.
That's how I like it.

And I always push the Bass on my Elements.

Maybe I should play bass.
