Colbert 2012
Don't know if anyone caught this but on Friday Stephen Colbert legally handed over his Super PAC to John Stewart so he could run for President of the United States of South Carolina.

I don't know what I think of this,....just getting more viewers or what,...but this is interesting and really shows you what Citizens United really is and how everyone can play the game.

It's all for comedy, but the whole Colbert SuperPAC thing has been pretty brilliant. He's basically being as visibly shady as possible to show just how shady you can legally be these days, which I wholeheartedly approve of.

Well he got the idea to do it from the fact that polls were putting Colbert higher than Jon Huntsman, even though Colbert wasnt even running. So he figured hell, he's guaranteed 5 percent of the vote, might as well get in there and see how many votes you can steal just to fuck with the candidates.

I'm pretty sure he intentionally waited for it to be too late for him to have any real effect. I think it's too late for him to even get on that ballot.
It's still pretty awesome. I have to wonder what the SuperPAC money will actually go to. Probably legal fees.

Yeah from what I have read, its too late for him to actually get on the ballot, and south Carolina doesn't allow write ins. I wish he really could get on the ballot because I would love to see how much of the vote he could steal from all those pathetic excuses for candidates. I think the whole purpose of this though is, like you said, he is trying to draw attention to how ridiculous these SuperPACs are and how much of a joke the laws are when it comes to not allowing the candidates to collaborate with them.

Oh, and I believe his SuperPAC will be funding some ads. Here is a press release they emailed to me today:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Definitely Not Coordinated With Stephen Colbert Super PAC Releases First Ad, Begins To Regret Length Of Name
AMERICA – The Definitely Not Coordinated With Stephen Colbert Super PAC released its first TV ad today, in advance of South Carolina's upcoming unnamed GOP Primary. The ad, which takes an objective look at Mitt Romney's private sector experience, is entitled "Attack In B Minor For Strings."
"Mitt Romney claims to be pro-corporations," said Jon Stewart, President of The Definitely Not Coordinated With Stephen Colbert Super PAC. "But would you let him date your daughter's corporation? Americans have been clamoring for a comprehensive study of this crucial issue, so we splurged for the full sixty-second commercial. We think South Carolinians will agree – they deserve a leader who shares their state's values, and perhaps even their state's initials."
The new spot begins airing today in a major ad buy that will blanket South Carolina from Charleston all the way to North Charleston. Those of you with some free AOL hours left can view the ad here.
The Definitely Not Coordinated With Stephen Colbert Super PAC, officially known as Americans For A Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow, is an independent, expenditure-only committee that's been proudly serving the community since late Thursday.

The ad is awesome too:

The interview at the bottom is pretty good, too.
Lots of ads like that would be an awesome way for them to spend the money.

Exactly, and this is the next logical step. Can't believe we didn't see it coming.

To be fair, after Romney you could pretty much put googly eyes on a bar of soap and give the rest of the pack a run for their money.
