Sellin' Yer Computer: What's Lucrative?

Post by CBA »

Friends,

How many of you have sold your newish/still-working/relevant computers lately?

I have a 15" silver MacBook Pro from 2007 with a 4GB RAM upgrade, glossy screen, 120 GB memory or so. I'm talking like... what... eBay? Craigslist? Amazon?

This is not a FOR SALE thread, just listing the info in case any of you can tell me what I could fetch for something like that and where would be the best place to sell it? I think I spent nearly $2,000... would be happy to get half that.

Anyone made any recent satisfying sales?

Gimme some computer slingin' tips!

Apple products generally retain a lot of their original value, so check things like the completed listings on eBay and see if anyone is selling anything similar on Craigslist. Wherever you sell it, make sure you wipe all your data first. You might also want to make a Facebook status to let your friends know you're selling it or mention it casually in conversation from time to time. My sister picked up a netbook that way. It might be a little spam-y, but I know I'm more comfortable selling something that's had my personal info on it to someone I know.

Shit yeah. Apple retains $$$ like BMW...even when it is unwarranted.

I'd love a damn MacBook, but it'll be 5 years before I can afford a used one from a couple years ago. I love Apple stuff, but the cost persistence is a little out of hand.

facebook and craiglist it definitely. you can probably get between $500-1000 for it... remember too that newer models have 3x that much hard drive space and that much RAM stock. is it an intel processor or was it just before they made the switch? that will also have a huge impact.
personally, i say just use it until it quits and save in the meantime. i'm typing right now on a 2002 12" powerbook. fuck yeah 640 MB RAM BITCHEZ

Yeah, like Brian said, the HD is small and you won't get much if it doesn't have an Intel processor. I wouldn't sell it unless you need cash for the holidays/rent/etc...

Thanks for the inputness, brogs.

Yep, my MBP does have an Intel processor, so that's good.

I'm asking about this because I just don't want a computer, period. I could write pages on why, but I just don't want one. I wonder if anyone else on this forum doesn't have a computer in their home.

I do a lot of recording, and I've built up a pretty good semi-pro Logic studio on my Mac... I just don't enjoy recording on a computer. Too much. I have two (well, three... one doesn't work) cassette 4-tracks (and the non-working 8-track), a Tascam DP-002 digital 8-track, and a lot of other stuff. I have my MBP, Logic, and an Apogee Duet. I suppose I could just put my computer in my closet and bring it out when necessary... I just...

I'm a bit of a weirdo, and I just don't want a computer.

You can get a 2008 ish mac on ebay refurbished/"loaned" (aka comes with warranty/guarantee of sorts) from apple for less than $700 (for those who want one but hate the price)...however I spent about that and got an laptop with i7 processor, 8gig ram, and 750gb. It just doesn't say mac on it.

Definitely not phone. I don't even text. I have the cheapest, shittiest phone that Verizon could offer. I leave it at home all day, and even then it's powered off. I don't have a Facebook or anything else like that. ILF is one of like three websites I check everyday... Gmail, IGN, ILF. All of this I can do at work.

I am admittedly a bit of a Luddite, but in a mostly contradictory way. Like I said... I just don't like the feel of having a computer. I'm not interested in computer recording anymore, and anything internet related I can do at work.

I don't know.

If your laptop comes with logic....that should definitely help you sell it/get you a better price. I kind of want your laptop...
