Thinking I might get an Xbox 360 rather than PS3. Cheaper and I like the looks of Kinect over Move for interactivity. UFC Trainer looks like it could be something useful.
I don't have internet at home so netflix wouldn't be possible.

Have you actually played it? I saw a comtinuously running trailer at Guitar Center yesterday but thre was no demo. I've seen a couple of clips on youtube....I can't tell from what I have seen how the game play would be.

Re: Rocksmith....
I just got this and an xbox (I've never owned a video game console before this) I've got to say it is pretty cool. I played for two hours and the time flew. Looking forward to seeing what will happen as I move up levels.
I do wish it taught theory but maybe they will do that in Rocksmith 2. I was a bit worried about paying $275 for something I couldn't see any other use for except this game (I don't have internet at home) but I can see myself logging quite a few hours with Rocksmith. It may look uncool but I can see I am going to enjoy it.

That sort of thing doesn't much appeal to me . I watched a cousin playing it on tgiving. He enjoys it but it is not for me. I'll stick with Rocksmith.

Just played for another 30 minutes. I can see this getting addicting. I figure any time spent with the guitar is positive.

This thing is not that great. The latency is frankly a little ridiculous.

How do you have the sound hooked up? You need to have the rca outs go directly to speakers. That will tame the latency issue.

I like it. However, I have it hookup to my SS. I have no latency.

Yeah....it can be set up to have no latency.
I think the thing about Rocksmith is that there will be haters.....they for the most part will not have tried it or will have problems with the latency and won't bother to set it up correctly so that it is not a problem. Hipsters will hate it merely because they hate everything. They think you will forge a completely original sound from studying Wilko Johnson, an old Charlie Pattons 45 that only three other people possess, the sounds of the clanging trainyard next to your bedroom, and from, of course, being a genius, as every hipster is convinced that he is.
I cannot give a full accounting of Rocksmith as I have only had it since last night at 7 pm. I have played it for about 2.5 hours so far.
At this point this appears to be a great tool to painlessly assist you in getting the fundamental patterns of rock guitar under your fingertips and it will help your time. While it won't give you a feel for playing with a band it will get you used to playing with other instruments. It will teach you some songs and it will show you some common patterns used in rock songwriting.
It may get you to play your guitar an hour or two a night.
Are those good things? I think so.
This thing is not going to teach your theory. It is not going to be better than disciplined study with a teacher or from well put together study material. It is not going to be any kind of be all or end all. If you are a serious student of guitar it is probably not the best use of your time. Of course Rocksmith is not going to teach you how to be creative.
The problem is that most people are not all that disciplined and this seems like an easy way to get you playing quite a bit. The more time spent with the guitar the better you will get. If you have the discipline to work through Berklee's Modern Method for Guitar you would get way more than you would from Rocksmith; however, most people don't have that kind of discipline.
All in all this is a great tool.....you just need to see its limitations. It is not a be all or end all.

Re: Rocksmith....
So anyway I keep playing this and it strikes me as a brilliant tool to make practicing more fun.....have pretty much been playing this one to two hours a night since I got it.....seems to me this is the way to go if one wants to get his/her foot in the door of guitar playing.....of course it doesn't teach you everything but I think for the beginner it would make those tough first stages easier....and as someone who has played guitar for quite a while I am finding it a real solidifier of the basic patterns of rock music.....and if you've got the basic patterns of rock music under your fingers and you are getting more and more fluent because you are playing for longer periods of time this is going to translate into being better in your playing in general.....ymmv......but I think if a person has an xbox or a ps3 and it seems like every one does (except for me until 4 days ago!) then this thing to me is a no brainer......you just have to try it out, get it set up properly so there is minimal latency....and of course it is always good to come at things with an open mind...and realize it has its limitations....but my guess is that you will love this thing....I know I am loving it.....
