Heavy armor and 2-handed weapons, right now it's orcish armor and an enchanted orcish hammer (absorbs stamina). If I get hit by a power attack though, that's like half my health and it's not uncommon to find an enemy (ALWAYS IN AN ENCLOSED AREA BY THE WAY) who can kill me in 2 hits while my power attacks only take a bit of health off of them. My Restoration skill is pretty high because I always have to push them away, run and heal just to survive the next attack. Blocking is almost useless -- the only way for it to be effective is to do the interrupt on them, but that drains the stamina I need for power attacks...
Regular swings are useless and slow.
I think sword + shield would offer much more survivability but fuck those girly weapons.

Also, the two-handed skill takes forever to raise...for some reason...even though it's all I ever use...

What is your two handed skill at? I think mine is at fifty-something. It's been going up pretty quickly. Blocking helps a lot, but you can't just hold your block, you have to block just as the enemy attacks. I recommend using different enchantments. Try some sort of destructive enchantment on your weapons (I prefer fire damage), and try buff enchantments on each piece of your armor (fortify heavy armor and health/healing rate is a good combo, fortify two handed or resist magic or something on jewelry). Also, don't use power attacks except rarely. They're useless for improving your character. Using normal attacks should increase your skill more quickly.

i hate two handed weapons. i ALWAYS have a spell of some sort in my hand, and ever since i got the bound weapons, i exclusively use those. i was talking to my roommate and the conjuration tree is so fucking powerful. as for armor, i usually cast stoneflesh every single fight, and my light armor is up really high thanks to my previously stated Mudcrab method. if you cast some spells while you do the mudcrab method, you can probably level up even more trees

The one that just got me used a lightning bolt that took off so much health it was ridiculous. I have a set of thieves guild light armour, which is all enchanted already. Generally a couple more tries gets me through the encounter, I just needed to vent some anger after a ragequit! :lol:

I haven't used the bound weapons yet, though I have those spells. I conjure a flame atronach in any battle with multiple strong opponents to draw their attacks before switching back to my two handed sword.

with conjuration leveled up more, any kill with a bound weapon catches the soul in a gem, atronachs are 50% stronger, last longer, AND the final upgrade is that you can have two at once.

Killed my third dragon last night, and a few giants. The shout that freezes enemies is super useful.

That tip about blocking is super helpful, I had no idea. If you don't time it right then you almost take full damage.

This one fucker from the Companions keeps following me around whenever I'm in their base and talking to me, so it interrupts whatever I'm doing. It's slightly annoying, but at least he doesn't follow me outside.
I had to do a mission with him as the "backup". So he keeps running up and talking to me the entire time I'm traveling to this enemy-held fort.
We go inside. "WE'RE GONNA MAKE THEM PAY."
I'm fighting some guy. He interrupts me to talk. "WE'RE GONNA MAKE THEM PAY." The enemy fucks me up and I have to reload.
"WE'RE GONNA MAKE THEM PAY."
The enemy is hitting my "teammate". He gets fucking knocked out and I'm thinking that'll be the end of that. After I kill the dude, my guy gets up and immediately: "WE'RE GONNA MAKE THEM PAY."
Every fucking 4 seconds, he talks to me. I have to KO him with power strikes, getting talked at and interrupted between blows. This buys me about seven seconds of freedom. I have to do this the entire time we're in the base, while enemies are also attacking me.

We get to the boss room, me getting talked at during every fight along the way, and my buddy gets stuck in a door. Thank god, maybe I can finish this fight quickly. I lure the regular trash enemies to the corridor I'm at and begin to whittle them down. Suddenly I'm killed in one hit. From behind. By my teammate. I reload, knock him out, quickly run into the boss room and eliminate everyone.
The quest is over.
Now he keeps talking to me about returning home. Over and over.
I leave the fort and try to fast travel. I can't fast travel because now he's hostile towards me again and counts as a "guard chasing you".
I save and alt+f4.

MOTHERFUCKING VILKAS. motherfucker did that shit in the part where you fight him in the yard. wouldn't stop, just kept following me and saying "WHAT DO YOU THINK THIS IS?!?" so i ran the fuck away and it wouldn't let me fast travel. so i took a carriage and it still said he was with me and i couldn't travel. no matter what, he did the same shit over and over again.



and after finishing the dark brotherhood, AND getting the ancient armors, i can conclude that they fucking rock. 100% poison resistance up in this bitch. and the Blade of Woe is just fucking boss. got my smithing up to 60, so now i can modify enchanted weapons too. flawless blade of woe does more damage than a standard glass mace i found.


my roommate told me about a dagger perk that does 15x damage when you sneak up on someone with the dagger. then there's gloves that double one handed damage. so basically you can get a 30x damage with a dagger if you sneak up on someone. people are one-shotting dragons with motherfucking daggers.

being an assassin is much more fun now that i've actually put points into it, and some cheap leveling tricks ;)

I've actually diverted from my usual two-handed, swing-'til-it's-dead tactics and am trying out conjuring and destruction and jank.
Aside from the immediate loss of godlike destructive power, I am enjoying it so far.

Being a thief/assassin type character is so fun. I'm already planning my next character (maaaage) even though I've done approximately none of the main quest though...
