I'm curious about this too.
This message is most likely very old, so things said here probably don't apply to the current state of all things devi ever. As always, you can visit www.deviever.com for the latest on devi ever related projects.

Someday, I should figure out who my friend Michael uses. 100 CDs in jewel cases with a 1 page insert for $300. Makes selling them for $5 reasonable.

I've been thinking about doing this... 2 bucks apiece isn't bad, and I don't mind the rougher look, idk.

Dayum, cheap but classy in a rugged, "let's go on a safari and climb mt. everest" kind of way.

Not bad I guess, but it's even cheaper to just buy those supplies and do it even more yourself. At that cost, I'd want actual cases and actual printing.

i hate jewel cases. i would love for those sleeves to be printed, not gonna lie, but i hate jewel cases with such a passion, its not even funny. you know those random things that just really piss you off?
if i could find a super cheap place to do cd duplication, i would love to find some place to do printed sleeves, but for 2 bucks for the whole package, it isn't that bad, not gonna lie. sell the CDs for 5 bucks, make 3 dollar profit each, not bad
but anyways, any other recommendations for CDs without jewel cases?

Look into Digi-Pak? Or just buy a spindle of blanks, some sick cardboard sleeve things, and print off a design on sticker paper? Literally exactly what my friend's band Innards did, before they got 12" vinyl for that album. Cassettes and a download code (I know, not CDs, but my favorite new option due to inexpense)? Learn how to screenprint?

Maybe even get greeting cards and slip a cd inside? One of my bands just put out an Xmas album this way

Or just make one of those cards that plays the music when you open it.

I might just do that. I made a few CDs with ones from Verbatim I think that looked like vinyl, and just drew things in the middle section.
I'll probably do that, when I get back to Illinois, I'm gonna get some recording underway in a studio for better qual, then just do that
THANKS AVONDAN YOU ARE A GENIUS
but i'm still interested into what other options are available

Dude, the staggering amount of options of music delivery is the most amazing thing ever. I love thinking about new ways to do stuff.

Re: cd duplication and packaging info?
Check with your local print shops, esp places that do laser printing. It's not uncommon for them to have a quality duplicator and the ability to print short run CDs at prices per unit nearly as cheap as runs of 1000 from regular pressing places. You'll need to come in with ready-to-print art and masters that don't waste the printers time to get those prices, but it's not that difficult...

i've always really wanted to release a cassette, but nobody would be able to listen to it. I do like the download cards, but those are almost impossible to sell, too much work for people. the CD is easy, instant gratification and no work on their part to listen to the music. pop it in your car then put it in your computer and iTunes automatically downloads.
If I could afford it, I would definitely go the LP route and put a download card in there, best of both worlds IMO
